
Ikorodu Local Government on December 18, 2024, held the 9th edition of its annual Christmas party for children at the council secretariat, bringing festive cheer and love to young ones across the community.
The event, organized by the council’s education department, was spearheaded by the wife of the council chairman, Mrs. Abolanle Adesina.
The vibrant celebration featured activities such as a bouncing castle, dancing competitions, gift presentations, cutting of the Christmas cake, and festive music, creating a joyous atmosphere for the children in attendance.
The council transformed the venue into a festive haven, embodying the spirit of Christmas and love.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina expressed his commitment to the annual tradition, which has become a hallmark of the council’s calendar.
He noted that this year’s edition marked the 9th consecutive Christmas party, emphasizing the council’s dedication to putting smiles on children’s faces during the Yuletide season.
“Even though my tenure is nearing its end, I am confident that this annual celebration will continue to thrive.”
“Christmas is all about love, and through this initiative, we aim to make our children feel valued and loved,” Hon. Adesina stated.
The First Lady of Ikorodu Local Government, Mrs. Abolanle Adesina expressed her joy in organizing the event, stressing the importance of bringing children together during Christmas.
“This season is for love and gratitude, and it’s only right to let our children experience it fully,” she said, assuring the children of fun and exciting gift packages to take home.
In a surprise gesture, Mrs. Abolanle Adesina was honoured with an Award of Excellence and a beautifully crafted portrait by the council’s education department, led by Mr. Adedeji Owolabi.
Mr. Owolabi commended Mrs. Adesina’s unwavering passion and commitment to supporting children and education in Ikorodu.
Hon. Wasiu Adesina applauded the department for the recognition, describing his wife as a driving force behind many impactful initiatives, including the council’s annual Thanksgiving gathering.
Alhaji Shamsideen Adewale Longe added an intellectual touch to the event by engaging the children with puzzle games and rewarding them with cash gifts.
He encouraged them to strike a balance between holiday fun and academic preparation for 2025.
The Vice Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Aarebirin Hon. (Dr.) Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba highlighted the significance of gratitude and community in the season.
She urged stakeholders and well-meaning individuals in Ikorodu Division to spread joy and be the reason behind others’ smiles this Christmas.
Other dignitaries in attendance included the Secretary to the Local Government, Alhaji Lateef Afini; APC Woman Leader of Ikorodu Division, Alhaja Rashidat Bello; and several councillors and community leaders.
The 2024 edition of the Christmas party succeeded in creating an atmosphere of joy and love, ensuring that the children of Ikorodu felt the true essence of the season.
