The Lagos State Government has issued a strong call for safety consciousness and adherence to strict crowd control measures during the upcoming Yuletide season, in light of recent stampedes at philanthropic events across the country that have tragically resulted in the loss of lives.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, while sympathizing with the families of those affected by such incidents in other states, emphasized the need for proactive measures to prevent similar occurrences within Lagos.
In a statement released by Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, the government urged individuals, groups, and organizations intending to distribute items to large gatherings to seek clearance from the Lagos State Safety Commission.
The Commission, in collaboration with security agencies, is tasked with ensuring crowd control and maintaining order at events involving significant public attendance.
To streamline the process, the Safety Commission has provided an online platform, www.lasgsafetyreg.com, where event organizers can register and obtain the required clearance.
Failure to comply with this directive will attract strict legal consequences for the offending parties.
Governor Sanwo-Olu has also activated all available safety mechanisms in the state and summoned a meeting of relevant safety agencies to intensify measures ahead of the festive period.
Additionally, the ongoing advocacy campaigns against fire outbreaks, flooding, and other safety hazards have been directed to continue with renewed vigour.
The Lagos State Government reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safe and joyous Yuletide for all residents, calling on stakeholders to prioritize safety and avoid actions that could endanger lives.
