The legislative chamber of Ikorodu Local Government witnessed a remarkable display of admiration and praise on December 24, 2024, as the Leader of the House, Hon. Adebowale Adebola set the stage for stakeholders and leaders to honour the council chairman, Hon. Wasiu Adesina, during his final budget presentation session.
The session evolved into a celebration of his impactful leadership and the many accomplishments achieved during his administration.
Hon. Adebowale highlighted the chairman’s legacy, describing him as a leader who has “written his name in gold that will stand the test of time.”
He further noted that Adesina’s leadership style and vision have significantly transformed the Ikorodu Local Government, positioning it as a model for other councils in Lagos State.
His comments paved the way for heartfelt tributes from various leaders and stakeholders, who lauded the chairman’s dedication to service and his remarkable strides in governance.
Stakeholders across diverse sectors of the council took turns to extol Adesina’s accomplishments, particularly his contributions to infrastructure development, community welfare, and grassroots engagement.
The Baale of Ojogbe, Chief Olukayode Oyewole Olomo, spoke passionately about the chairman’s impact, stating, “I do not envy the incoming chairman because of the high expectations he will face in filling these shoes”.
“However, I envy him for the solid foundation Hon. Wasiu Adesina has laid, which will enable him to excel.”
Chief Olomo further emphasized how Adesina’s administration prioritized the needs of the people, creating an inclusive and enabling environment for progress and development.
Similarly, Deaconess Busola Isikalu, the Iya-Oloja General of Ikorodu Division, praised the chairman for his groundbreaking reforms in the market sector.
She noted, “The chairman has restructured our market systems, making them more accessible and organized than ever before. Traders can now conduct their businesses with ease, thanks to improved market facilities and infrastructure. ”
“Even our roads, which were once riddled with potholes, have been significantly improved, easing the movement of goods and services.”
Deaconess Isikalu also acknowledged Adesina’s support for the welfare of market women, describing him as a leader who genuinely cares about the well-being of his constituents.
The Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC), Elder Ogunjimi Yekinni, shed light on the progress made by Community Development Associations (CDAs) during Adesina’s tenure.
He stated, “The CDAs in Ikorodu Local Government have witnessed unprecedented growth, and this is largely due to the cordial relationship between the council chairman and the community leaders”.
“Adesina’s open-door policy and willingness to engage with stakeholders have fostered trust and collaboration, resulting in impactful community projects.”
Elder Yekinni highlighted initiatives such as street lighting, road rehabilitation, and sanitation programs, all of which have enhanced the quality of life in various communities.
Hon. Mutiat Fatuga, the Ward B Councillor, delivered a heartfelt and emotional tribute, stating, “There will never be another chairman like Hon. Wasiu Adesina.”
“His inclusive leadership style is unmatched, and his ability to bring people together for the common good is extraordinary.”
“He has not only been a leader but also a mentor and a friend to many of us in the council.”
Hon. Omotayo Awolesi, the Ward C Councillor, highlighted the chairman’s numerous initiatives that prioritized youth empowerment, women’s inclusion, and social welfare, leaving a lasting impact on the community.
He also expressed his gratitude to the chairman for deeming him worthy to serve as a councillor in the council, acknowledging Adesina’s leadership in fostering opportunities for growth and service.
Adding to the chorus of commendations, the Vice-Chairman of the local government, Aarebirin Hon. Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba described Adesina as “the best council boss in Nigeria.”
She elaborated on his achievements, including his efforts to modernize local governance through technology, promote environmental sustainability, and improve healthcare delivery.
“Adesina’s leadership has set a benchmark that will be hard to surpass. He is a visionary leader who has inspired us all to strive for excellence,” she said.
The session, originally intended to focus on the 2025 budget, transformed into an emotional yet celebratory farewell for a chairman whose tenure has made an enduring impact on Ikorodu Local Government.
Stakeholders expressed gratitude for Adesina’s dedication, with many pledging their continued support for his legacy projects.
