PMAN PRESIDENT DELIVERS BOLD NEW YEAR’S ADDRESS AMID ONGOING LEADERSHIP CHALLENGES ~ INN Nigeria ☆

LAGOS, January 3, 2025 – Mr. Pretty Okafor, President of the Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN), has delivered a stirring New Year’s address to members of the Association, calling for unity, resilience, and dedication amid ongoing leadership challenges.

In the address, Mr. Okafor reflected on the progress PMAN has made under his stewardship, despite a series of disputes and legal battles that have overshadowed the Association since August 2024.

He began by extending warm wishes to musicians across Nigeria and beyond, expressing hope for renewed opportunities in 2025.

“May this season bring forth renewed vigour and fresh opportunities for every member of our illustrious Association,” he said, emphasizing the need for unity and unwavering commitment to the growth of the music industry.

Mr. Okafor addressed attempts by a faction of disgruntled members to unseat him from office on what he described as “trumped-up accusations” and a series of illegal maneuvers, including obtaining a fraudulent court order from a Niger State Upper Sharia Court.

The court order, which sought to restrict his bank accounts and authorize his arrest, has since been nullified, with the implicated court clerk dismissed by the Niger State Judicial Service Commission.

“These actions were not only unconstitutional but also contravened the laws of Nigeria,” he stated, adding that petitions regarding the misconduct have been submitted to key authorities, including the Inspector General of Police and the Chief Justice of Nigeria.

Mr. Okafor highlighted the ongoing legal battles initiated by the suspended and dismissed National Working Committee (NWC), describing their efforts as attempts to undermine his leadership and the Association’s progress.

Despite these challenges, Mr. Okafor pointed to several notable achievements during his tenure, including the acquisition of PMAN’s first National Secretariat in Chevy View Estate, Lagos.

The facility also houses a radio station equipped with state-of-the-art broadcasting technology, pending the issuance of its license.

Under his leadership, PMAN successfully recovered its land in Abuja, which is now the site of an ambitious property development project.

The project features state-of-the-art facilities, including malls, concert halls, hotels, residential apartments, and broadcasting stations, aimed at generating revenue for the Association.

PMAN has also partnered with a Brazilian investor to fund the initiative.

“Our progress has positioned PMAN to be involved in healthcare, scholarships, and the professional development of our members,” Mr. Okafor said, adding that similar projects are planned across the six geopolitical zones in collaboration with PMAN Chapter Governors.

As PMAN faces internal divisions, Mr. Okafor called on members to remain steadfast and focused on the shared vision of advancing the music industry.

“This New Year presents us with an opportunity to rise above every distraction and focus on our shared vision,” he said.

He reaffirmed his commitment to clearing his name and delivering a PMAN that is respected globally, urging members to remain vigilant, united, and determined to sustain and expand on the milestones achieved.

In conclusion, Mr. Okafor encouraged musicians to embrace the spirit of togetherness and look forward to a prosperous year filled with groundbreaking accomplishments.

“Let us reaffirm our commitment to building an Association that stands at the forefront of excellence, creating lasting value for Nigerian musicians,” he declared.

As PMAN navigates through turbulent times, Mr. Pretty Okafor’s leadership remains pivotal in steering the Association toward stability and growth in 2025.
