The Lagos State Government’s Rural Electrification Initiative, spearheaded by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu through the Office of Rural Development, continues to make significant strides in enhancing power supply to underserved communities.
The initiative, now extended into 2025, marked a new milestone on January 22, 2025, with the distribution of transformers to communities in Ikorodu and Ibeju-Lekki.
Residents, community stakeholders, and Community Development Association (CDA) executives gathered to witness the distribution and commend the government for its commitment to improving rural infrastructure.
Speaking on behalf of Laaga CDA in Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mr. Taofeeq Oladiran Ajetunmobi praised the Lagos State Government and the Office of Rural Development for addressing the community’s electricity challenges.
Similarly, the Okun Idado community in Ibeju-Lekki benefited from the initiative by receiving a transformer to improve electricity supply.
The development has been widely lauded as a step towards achieving sustainable rural development and bringing the dividends of democracy closer to the people.
Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, emphasized the administration’s dedication to ensuring that no community is left behind in the quest for equitable development.
He explained that the initiative was designed to support underserved areas of the state by improving access to electricity, fostering growth, and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
“The program has been extended into 2025 due to overwhelming requests for support from numerous communities across the state,” Dr. Agbaje stated.
“Governor Sanwo-Olu remains committed to delivering more through this initiative, which has already positively impacted several rural communities.”
Residents across the benefiting communities expressed their gratitude to the Lagos State Government, describing the rural electrification initiative as a practical demonstration of the administration’s promise to enhance the lives of all Lagosians.
