IKORODU NORTH CDC: LAGOS STATE’S LARGEST & MOST ACTIVE COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE ~ INN Nigeria ☆

The Ikorodu North Community Development Committee (CDC) has established itself as the largest and most active grassroots development organization in Lagos State.

Rooted in the expansion of local governance, its impact on infrastructure, social development, and civic participation has been unparalleled.

The foundation of the Ikorodu North CDC dates back to the creation of Ikorodu North LCDA from Ikorodu Local Government in 2003.

This transition sparked the need for a structured approach to community development.

The CDC was spearheaded by its pioneer leadership team, with Prince Adebola Osinbajo as Chairman, Mr. Olubusola Sunday Sofekun as Secretary, and Mr. Tope Akinyosoye as Treasurer.

Remarkably, this leadership was in place even before the formal adoption of a CDC constitution, signifying the urgency and dedication to fostering grassroots initiatives.

One of the first major milestones under the CDC’s leadership was the exponential expansion of Community Development Associations (CDAs).

From an initial three, the number surged to thirty-seven, underscoring the effectiveness of its community mobilization strategy.

A significant structural shift occurred during the administration of Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, when the CDC adopted a written constitution.

This provided an operational framework that allowed for a more defined leadership structure and streamlined governance processes.

During its second tenure, the leadership structure evolved with Prince Adebola Osinbajo retaining the Chairmanship, while Mr. Adebogun became the 1st Vice Chairman and Mr. Olubusola Sofekun the 2nd Vice Chairman. Other key figures included:

Mr. Lola Akintelure – General Secretary; Mr. Tope Akinyosoye – Treasurer; Mr. Abidoye – Financial Secretary; Mr. Lucky Oluku – Social Secretary; Evangelist Kayode Ogunshola – Auditor; and Mr. Kehinde – Public Relations Officer (PRO)

This expansion in leadership allowed for increased efficiency and a broader influence in regional community development policies.

A new era of leadership commenced in 2011 when the late Mr. Laja Martins took over as CDC Chairman, succeeding Prince Adeola Zaccheus Osinbajo.

During this period, Prince Adeniran Ogunbanwo, JP (the current chairman), served as the CDC General Secretary, playing a pivotal role in strengthening the committee’s influence.

Under successive administrations, Ikorodu North CDC has continued to grow, now boasting the highest membership numbers in Lagos State.

This expansion has reinforced its position as a powerful force in local governance, shaping policies and community-driven initiatives.

The CDC’s impact has been further strengthened by its strategic collaborations with government agencies, the private sector, and other key stakeholders.

These partnerships have led to significant advancements in: Infrastructure Development – Roads, water supply, and electrification projects; Social Welfare – Youth empowerment programs, health initiatives, and educational support; and Economic Growth – Skill acquisition programs, job creation efforts, and microfinance support.

With a robust organizational structure and an unwavering commitment to community progress, the Ikorodu North CDC continues to serve as a model for effective grassroots governance.

As it forges ahead, its focus remains on sustainable development, civic engagement, and positioning itself for greater influence within the Lagos State Community Development Advisory Council (CDAC).

The Ikorodu North CDC’s journey from a fledgling organization to Lagos State’s largest and most active community development body is a testament to the power of grassroots leadership.

Its continued expansion and strategic governance ensure that it remains a driving force in local development, setting a standard for other CDCs across the state.
