The Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment as a means to tackle unemployment, reduce crime, and promote sustainable socio-economic development in line with the THEMES Plus Agenda.
At a recent fish farming training and empowerment programme organized by the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD) in Igbodu, Epe, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Lanre-Agbaje, urged participants to leverage various developmental initiatives by the state government.
He emphasized that these programs are designed to enhance skills, improve business turnovers, and contribute significantly to the state’s socio-economic transformation.
Dr. Agbaje assured the beneficiaries that Governor Sanwo-Olu is committed to ensuring that more training and empowerment programs are introduced.
He encouraged them to maximize the opportunity provided and turn their newly acquired skills into profitable ventures.
In her remarks, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development, reiterated the government’s resolve to expand capacity-building programs across rural communities.
She highlighted that these initiatives would help curb rural-urban migration, create more employment opportunities, and boost food production within Lagos State.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Musibau Muyiwa Balogun, Director of CERUD, encouraged participants to view the training as a game-changer in their business approach.
He assured that, with Governor Sanwo-Olu’s approval, CERUD would introduce additional programs to further improve the socio-economic conditions of young people in Lagos.
The Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Lagos Chapter, Dr. Femi Oke, expressed appreciation for the state government’s continuous support for farmers.
He also called for expanded assistance to other agricultural sectors, particularly in crop production, to enhance food security in Lagos.
Some of the beneficiaries lauded the Lagos State Government for the empowerment opportunity and pledged to put their new skills and materials to productive use.
As part of the initiative, 100 participants received essential farming tools, including fish tanks, fish feeds, and smoking kilns, to kick-start their fish farming businesses.
This initiative marks another step in Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to empowering Lagos youths and fostering economic growth through skill acquisition and entrepreneurship.
