HON. WASIU ADESINA HOSTS PRIZE-GIVING, AWARDS ₦1M TO DEBATE COMPETITION WINNERS ~ INN Nigeria ☆

Ikorodu, February 6, 2025 – In a resounding display of commitment to education, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina hosted the prize-giving ceremony for the 2nd edition of the Ikorodu Division Interschool Debate Competition.

The event took place at the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat Hall, celebrating the outstanding performances of students from across the division.

Sixteen schools initially entered the competition, but only three emerged as the top winners.

Elepe Senior Grammar School secured first place with an impressive score of 76.3, earning a cash prize of ₦500,000.

Government Senior Model College claimed second place with 74.1 points and received ₦300,000, while Ipakodo Senior Secondary School took third place with 70.0 points, receiving ₦200,000.

The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including representatives from Kaodwad and Associates, education stakeholders, and political leaders.

Speaking on behalf of the Executive Director of Kaodwad and Associates, Mr. Adeyinka Kazeem, company representative Mr. Muhammed Ismail Anjola praised the partnership with Ikorodu Local Government.

He described the competition as a “huge success” and thanked Hon. Wasiu Adesina for his unwavering support and dedication to the cause of education.

He also acknowledged the presence of Lagos State First Lady, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who headlined the grand finale, making the occasion even more remarkable.

Hon. Wasiu Adesina, in his speech, reaffirmed his deep commitment to educational advancement.

“This competition has not only boosted students’ confidence but has also given them a platform to sharpen their critical thinking skills.”

“My administration believes in a vision where every child has the opportunity to excel.”

“Even after leaving office, I will continue to support this initiative in collaboration with Kaodwad and Associates,” Adesina stated.

The chairman further announced plans to extend the competition to the primary school level within Ikorodu Local Government, reinforcing his dedication to grassroots education.

Mr. Adedeji Owolabi, Head of the Education Department at Ikorodu Local Government, described the event as a “promise made and promise kept.”

He commended the council chairman for setting up a dedicated committee to execute the program successfully, emphasizing that the winners’ progress would be closely monitored.

Alhaji Lateef Afini, Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), lauded Hon. Adesina’s financial commitment to the program stated that his passion for promoting education in Ikorodu was evident through initiatives like this.

Representing Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, Mr. Enitan Olukotun commended the program, describing it as a platform for human capital development.

He noted that Senator Abiru’s passion for education aligns with Adesina’s vision, and both leaders share a commitment to empowering young minds.

The event saw the presence of several prominent figures, including: Mrs. Enitan Olukoya (Council Manager); Mr. Kehinde Ayobadejo (Ikorodu APC Party Secretary); Alhaji Waheed Animashun; Alhaji Junai Owokodu (Former Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government); Mr. Sonibare (CDA Chairman, Ikorodu Central); Alhaji Folorunso; Alhaji Taiwo Longe (Former APC Party Chairman); Mr. Akinola Clement (DPO, Igbogbo), amongst others.

Hon. Wasiu Adesina encouraged the students to see their achievements as a stepping stone to greater heights.

“Beyond being public school students, you have proven that success is not determined by privilege but by vision, and that greatness is achieved through hard work rather than status.”

“Your achievements should serve as an inspiration to all students in public schools,” he said.

As the curtains closed on the event, it was evident that the competition had fulfilled its purpose—enhancing students’ confidence, improving their intellectual capabilities and fostering a culture of excellence in education across Ikorodu Division.

With Hon. Adesina’s renewed commitment to sustaining the initiative, the future of interschool competitions in Ikorodu looks brighter than ever.
