Ikorodu, Lagos – The Ikorodu Division Interschool Debate Competition, initially organized for secondary school students, will now extend to primary schools, according to the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina.

Adesina made this announcement during the prize-giving ceremony for the winners of the 2nd edition of the competition, held at the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat on February 6, 2025.

The initiative, originally launched in collaboration with Kaodwad and Associates, has been recognized for its positive impact on public secondary school students, enhancing their confidence and critical thinking skills.

Expressing his commitment to education, the chairman emphasized that primary school students should also benefit from such competitive academic engagements.

“The success of this program should be felt at the foundational level, where we can build students’ confidence and prepare them for future intellectual contests,” he stated.

Hon. Adesina further reassured stakeholders that even after his tenure ends in the latter half of 2025, he remains committed to supporting the initiative financially.

“Education remains a top priority for me, and I will continue to sponsor this program even after leaving office,” he affirmed.

The Ikorodu Division Interschool Debate Competition has gained significant recognition since its inception, fostering academic excellence and public speaking skills among students.

With the inclusion of primary school pupils, the program is expected to create an even broader impact on young learners in the region.
