The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring food security and supporting vulnerable residents across the state.

Represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, Governor Sanwo-Olu delivered this assurance at the 9th anniversary celebration of the Lagos Food Bank Initiative and the official launch of its third warehouse.

The event, which underscored the government’s dedication to combating hunger, provided a platform to highlight key interventions implemented by the administration to address food insecurity.

Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the State Government has been proactive in tackling food accessibility challenges through various programs, including the Ounje Eko Food Discount Market, which provides essential food items at subsidized rates to low-income households.

Additionally, the Farmers’ Support Programme has been a driving force in boosting local agricultural production, ensuring that Lagos can sustainably feed its growing population.

The government has also established the Central Food Security Systems & Logistics Hub alongside Mid-Level Agroproduce Hubs, designed to enhance food storage, preservation, and distribution.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Olusanya commended the Lagos Food Bank Initiative for its unwavering commitment to alleviating hunger and malnutrition in the state.

She described the launch of the new warehouse as a significant step in expanding food relief efforts, ensuring that more vulnerable individuals benefit from sustainable food support programs.

The Lagos Food Bank Initiative, a non-profit organization dedicated to reducing food insecurity, has played a critical role in bridging the gap between food production and accessibility for underprivileged communities.

The launch of the third warehouse is expected to enhance the organization’s capacity to reach more beneficiaries and strengthen food distribution networks across Lagos.

Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed that his administration remains committed to fostering collaborations with private organizations and non-profits to achieve food security goals.

He urged stakeholders to continue working together in creating a food-secure Lagos where no resident is left behind.

The event concluded with a tour of the new warehouse facility, showcasing its capacity to store and distribute food items efficiently, reinforcing the shared vision of making food accessible to all Lagosians.
