RE: ALLEGED DEFECTION OF 27 LAGOS ASSEMBLY MEMBERS TO LABOUR PARTY ~ INN Nigeria ☆

The Lagos State House of Assembly has strongly refuted claims suggesting that twenty-seven members of the Assembly are planning to defect from the ruling party to the opposition Labour Party (LP).

In an official statement, the Assembly described the report as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public.

According to the statement signed by Hon. (Otunba) Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy, and Security, the Assembly finds the publication offensive and filled with inaccuracies intended to cause unnecessary tension and division.

The statement emphasized that recent developments within the House, particularly the removal of former Speaker Hon. Mudashiru Obasa and the subsequent election of Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda as the new Speaker, are strictly internal affairs.

These actions, it noted, were conducted in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and do not in any way indicate an intention by any member to defect from the ruling party.

The Assembly reaffirmed its unity and commitment to delivering its mandate to the people of Lagos State, urging the public to disregard the false reports.

The lawmakers reassured party leaders and supporters that they remain loyal to the ruling party and that any internal disagreements would be resolved amicably through democratic means.

Furthermore, the Assembly called on media organizations to uphold the ethics of journalism by verifying reports before publication and refraining from spreading unverified information that could mislead the public.

The leadership of the Lagos State House of Assembly reiterated its focus on legislative responsibilities and dismissed any speculation regarding defection as the handiwork of those seeking to destabilize the political atmosphere in the state.
