The Lagos State Office of Rural Development conducted a needs assessment at Methodist Primary School, Agura, and Agura Primary Health Centre on February 24, 2025, in a bid to enhance rural infrastructure.
The assessment was led by Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, accompanied by officials from the technical department of the Ministry.

Dr. Agbaje’s first stop was at Methodist Primary School, Agura, where he engaged with the school administrators, urging them to ensure students do not play near the roadside to prevent accidents.
He assured them that the Lagos State Government would intervene by constructing a fence around the school to create a safer and more conducive learning environment.

Furthermore, he announced that the school would benefit from the Federal Government’s Rural Electrification Initiative, a program aimed at improving access to electricity in rural areas.
Welcoming the delegation, Mrs. Deborah Afolayan, Head Teacher of Methodist Primary School, expressed her appreciation for the government’s planned interventions and emphasized the school’s urgent need for improved infrastructure.
Following the school assessment, Dr. Agbaje proceeded to Agura Primary Health Centre, where he carried out another needs assessment.

He reiterated that since the health centre is in proximity to the school, both facilities, along with surrounding communities, would be included in the Rural Electrification Initiative to ensure a more stable power supply.
Mrs. Useni Rachel, Officer-in-Charge of Agura Primary Health Centre, expressed optimism that the government’s intervention would lead to an upgrade of the facility.

She also commended Dr. Agbaje for his commitment to improving healthcare services in rural communities.
Similarly, Mr. Abdul Fatai Oluruntele, Chairman of the Ward Health Committee, applauded the Lagos State Government for prioritizing the needs of Agura residents, emphasizing that better infrastructure would enhance service delivery at the health centre.

The needs assessment underscores the Lagos State Government’s continued efforts to improve rural education and healthcare, aligning with its broader agenda of developing underserved communities across the state.
