The Lagos State Government, through the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), has urged teachers in Grade Levels 10-12 to incorporate digital technology into their teaching methods in a bid to enhance digital integration in education.
The Chairman of TESCOM, Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregrino made this call while declaring open a two-day capacity-building workshop at the Teaching Service Staff Development Centre (TSSDC), Owutu, Ikorodu.
The workshop, which began on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, and concludes on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, focuses on equipping over 300 teachers with skills for creating and maintaining technology-infused classrooms.
Speaking on the theme, “Creating and Maintaining a Technology-Infused Classroom for Public Secondary Teachers GLs 10-12,” Peregrino emphasized the necessity for educators to stay updated with evolving digital teaching tools.
She highlighted that the initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to improving the standards of post-primary education by consistently upskilling teachers.
“In the 21st-century education system, applying digital technologies in classrooms allows students to learn using cutting-edge mobile devices and the internet, among others. Therefore, teachers must be abreast of current technological trends to facilitate student learning and engagement,” Peregrino stated.
She further noted that the training would provide participants with practical insights into different types of digital technologies, their implementation, and effective classroom management strategies.
Reaffirming the Lagos State Government’s dedication to capacity building, Peregrino assured that such training programs would be continuous, ensuring teachers remain adaptable in an ever-evolving education landscape.
The Permanent Secretary of TESCOM, Mrs. Adebopo Oyekan-Ismaila, while welcoming the participants, urged them to maximize the training to enhance student performance.
She encouraged them to embrace digital transformation, emphasizing that only teachers who adapt to the new digital world order would excel in their profession.
The two-day workshop is expected to conclude with a communique outlining key takeaways and implementation strategies for technology-driven teaching in Lagos public secondary schools.
