Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has unveiled the Pathway to Malaria Pre-Elimination and Digitization Program, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at tackling malaria in the state.
The launch, which took place on March 4, 2025, marks a significant step in Lagos’ efforts to combat the disease, which is responsible for over 200,000 deaths annually in Nigeria.
Announcing the initiative through his social media platform, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that Lagos is the first sub-national entity to implement this innovative program, reinforcing the state’s commitment to leveraging digital solutions and enhanced public-private partnerships in healthcare.
The program is backed by key global organizations, including the World Bank, World Health Organization (WHO), Maisha Meds, and other strategic partners.
It is designed to enhance malaria diagnosis accuracy, improve case management, and link patients to social health insurance schemes, ensuring accessibility to quality healthcare for all Lagosians.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated that through collaborative efforts with stakeholders, Lagos can significantly reduce the malaria burden and create a healthier environment for its residents.
“As we move forward with this initiative, our goal is to strengthen malaria response mechanisms, utilize digital technology to streamline interventions, and ultimately improve healthcare outcomes in Lagos State,” he said.
The initiative aligns with Lagos State’s broader healthcare transformation agenda, focusing on innovation and sustainable solutions to combat endemic diseases.
