LASG ANNOUNCES TRAFFIC DIVERSION PLAN FOR INDEPENDENCE BRIDGE REPAIRS ~ INN Nigeria ☆

The Lagos State Government has unveiled a traffic diversion plan ahead of the emergency repairs on the Independence/Mekwen Bridge (inbound Marina/CMS route).

The rehabilitation work, scheduled to commence on Wednesday, March 19, and conclude on Monday, May 26, 2025, will temporarily restrict vehicular movement in the affected areas.

According to a statement issued by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the section of the road from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) through Bonny Camp Bridge down to Independence Bridge, will be completely closed to vehicular movement.

Additionally, the service lane at Bonny Camp Underpass Bridge inbound Independence Bridge will be inaccessible to motorists.

However, the service lane from Ahmadu Bello Way to Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue will remain open for traffic.

Motorists travelling from Ahmadu Bello Way to Victoria Island are advised to take Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, proceed to Falomo Roundabout, and connect Obafemi Awolowo Road to access Ring Road.

Vehicles heading to Third Mainland Bridge should use Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, then connect to Alfred Rewane Road, continue through Osborne Road, and link Ring Road to reach their destinations.

Motorists going to Inner Marina and CMS should divert via Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue inbound Akin Adesola Street, then proceed through Falomo Roundabout and take Obafemi Awolowo Road to connect J.K. Randle Road/King George V Road for easy access.

Vehicles travelling from Inner Marina/CMS to Ahmadu Bello Way will have through-traffic access.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be deployed to strategic locations along the diversion routes to manage traffic flow and ensure minimal disruption to commuters.

Commissioner Osiyemi urged motorists to exercise patience during the period, emphasizing that the partial closure is part of the Federal Ministry of Works’ efforts to rehabilitate the asphalt pavement on the affected road sections.

“The cooperation of all road users is essential for the smooth execution of this repair work. We assure Lagosians that LASTMA officials will be actively managing the situation to reduce traffic congestion,” he stated.

Motorists are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly, use alternative routes, and follow traffic advisories throughout the rehabilitation period.

For further updates, commuters can stay informed through official government channels and LASTMA advisories.
