
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu is set to inaugurate 16 newly constructed classroom blocks across the six education districts, beginning with Keme Balogun School in Ibeshe, Ikorodu, followed by Ajegunle Junior High School in Kosofe.
The Chairman of the Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS), Mr. Hakeem Smith, announced this at a press conference in Alausa, Ikeja, alongside Commissioner for Information, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso; Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun; Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, and other officials.
He highlighted Governor Sanwo-Olu’s achievements in education, including five newly built schools, 386 rehabilitated school buildings, 1,290 classroom blocks, 208,000 pieces of composite furniture, and 1,592 beddings for model colleges.
The newly constructed schools include Elemoro Community Junior School, Eti-Osa; Musade Odugate Junior School, Oriokuta, Ikorodu; Oke Odo Junior High School, Ebute-Metta; Ajegunle Junior High School, Kosofe; and Otumara Senior High School, Ebute-Metta.
To modernize learning, the government has adopted modular classroom construction, with ongoing projects at Girls Junior Secondary School, Lalupon; Lagos Baptist Secondary School, Obanikoro; and Ogba Junior Secondary School, modeled after Vetland Junior Grammar School in Agege.
In Ajegunle, a large-scale rehabilitation project at the Tolu School Complex aims to enhance facilities for over 20,000 students across 16 senior and 15 junior secondary schools, as well as five primary schools, positioning it as a future tourist attraction.
Commissioner Alli-Balogun reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to education, citing the recruitment of 500 new teachers and a ₦2 billion allocation for WAEC fees for SS3 students, reinforcing the THEMES+ agenda’s focus on quality education.
