Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Ikorodu has witnessed another milestone in its infrastructural development, as Rep. Babajimi Benson, MHR, continues to advance healthcare accessibility in the region.

The federal lawmaker is facilitating the construction of a state-of-the-art medical Diagnostic Centre, a project that was officially launched with a grand foundation-laying ceremony on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the 80-bed Mother and Child Hospital, Imota.

The event was presided over by His Royal Majesty, Oba Ajibade Mudashiru Bakare Agoro, the Ranodu of Imota, and was graced by numerous dignitaries, community stakeholders, and members of Rep. Benson’s iCare Foundation, who added grandeur to the occasion.

The Diagnostic Centre, once completed, is set to significantly boost healthcare services within Imota LCDA and its environs.

The facility will house several advanced medical units, including: Doctor’s Cabin; Sonography Unit; Report Collection Desk; Report Area; Common Room; Ultrasound Room; MRI Scan Room; Scan Observation Room; Pathology & Microbiology Lab; Chemical Lab; Waiting Area; and Toilets.

The project is expected to reduce the stress on Ikorodu General Hospital, where many residents currently travel for specialized medical services due to a lack of diagnostic facilities within the Imota region.

Speaking before the foundation-laying ceremony, Prince Wasiu Kunle Agoro, the Executive Chairman of Imota LCDA, described the project as a transformative initiative that will make Imota self-reliant in providing critical medical services.

He lauded Rep. Benson’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of his constituents, stating:

“Hon. Babajimi Benson has continuously demonstrated that he is a leader who genuinely cares for his people.”

“This Diagnostic Centre will not only enhance healthcare delivery but will also bring immense relief to the residents of Imota.”

Representing Rep. Benson at the event, Mr. Fatai Lasisi conveyed the lawmaker’s heartfelt dedication to Imota, emphasizing that the community holds a special place in his heart.

He assured residents that the Diagnostic Centre would be completed and commissioned before the end of 2025, in line with the lawmaker’s commitment to delivering democratic dividends.

In his royal address, HRM Oba Ajibade Mudashiru Bakare Agoro extolled Rep. Benson for his consistent and impactful contributions to the development of Imota LCDA.

“Rep. Babajimi Benson has proven time and again that he is a true son of Ikorodu. His numerous accomplishments speak volumes, and we are proud to have him championing projects of great significance like this.”

The monarch further stressed that Imota will take full ownership of the Diagnostic Centre upon completion, ensuring proper maintenance and sustainability for long-term benefits.

Dr. Adenike Omosun, Director of the Diagnostics Centre, expressed gratitude for Rep. Benson’s facilitation of the project and lauded his additional pledge of two ambulances to support the facility.

These ambulances are expected to be delivered before the official commissioning, reinforcing the center’s capacity to handle emergency medical situations.

Other dignitaries present at the foundation-laying ceremony included: Dr. (Col.) Onofowokan; Chief Adebogun Olumuyiwa, the Olisa of Imota; Chief Jamiu Anjorin, the Ayangade of Imota; Chief Akinyemi Tokunbo, the Gbasemo of Imota; and Princess Abisoye Adedoyin.

The Imota Diagnostic Centre is poised to revolutionize healthcare services within the region by providing accessible, efficient, and modern medical diagnostics.

The project, according to other stakeholders, is not only a testament to Rep. Babajimi Benson’s visionary leadership, but also a major step towards decongesting Ikorodu General Hospital and improving early disease detection and treatment within the local community.
