As Ramadan and Lent continue, Rep. Babajimi Benson, the federal lawmaker representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, has reaffirmed his commitment to community welfare through the Aapo Anu Monthly Food Support Program, which translates to “Mercy Bags” for those in need.
The March edition of the initiative, held at his Secretariat on March 22, 2025, attracted a massive crowd of beneficiaries from across Ikorodu Division, including Ikorodu Central, Imota LCDA, Ijede LCDA, Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, Ikorodu West LCDA, and Ikorodu North LCDA.
Residents gathered in large numbers to receive bags of rice as part of the program, ensuring food security during this significant period.
The distribution was carried out by officials and members of Rep. Babajimi Benson’s iCare Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to humanitarian aid and community development.
The Aapo Anu program is specifically designed to support the elderly, the less privileged, individuals with special needs, and other vulnerable groups, serving as a lifeline for many families and reinforcing Rep. Benson’s commitment to addressing food insecurity in the constituency.
During the event, Ikorodu News Network (INN) engaged with several beneficiaries who shared their appreciation for the initiative:
Mrs. Risikat Adeyemi, a widow, expressed her gratitude:
“This support is a huge relief, especially during Ramadan. Hon. Benson’s kindness continues to make a difference in our lives.”
Mr. Emmanuel Olanrewaju, a retiree, commended the lawmaker’s unwavering commitment:
“Every month, Hon. Benson shows his dedication to the people. This kind of leadership brings hope to the community.”
Mrs. Hafsat Bello, a mother of four, highlighted the impact of the initiative:
“With the rising cost of food, this rice will go a long way in sustaining my family during Ramadan. May Allah bless him for his generosity.”
Similarly, Mr. Samuel Adekunle, a person with special needs, praised the program’s inclusiveness:
“Hon. Benson ensures that people like us are not forgotten. His support means a lot to me and many others.”
Through the Aapo Anu (“Mercy Bags”) Welfare Program, which continues to expand under the iCare Foundation, Rep. Babajimi Benson remains committed to uplifting the lives of Ikorodu residents.
Since its launch in 2016, the initiative has impacted over 100,000 beneficiaries, providing consistent relief to families in need across the constituency.
