The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed circulating reports of a surge in kidnapping incidents along the Gbagada Expressway, calling them false and recycled misinformation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has assured Lagosians that there is no credible intelligence to support these claims and has ordered an immediate review of security measures in the area.
In a statement issued on March 28, 2025, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police clarified that the supposed security alert did not originate from them.
The misleading advisory first surfaced in January 2024, reappeared in September 2024, and has now resurfaced in March 2025. Each time, the police have swiftly debunked the claims.
While reaffirming the falsity of the alert, CP Jimoh acknowledged the concerns of residents and commuters, directing Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Area Commanders to conduct a comprehensive security review of the entire Gbagada Expressway corridor.
He emphasized that the security architecture in the area would be continuously optimized to ensure maximum safety for all road users and residents.
“The Lagos State Police Command is fully committed to maintaining law and order. Lagosians should go about their lawful activities without fear of harassment or intimidation,” CP Jimoh stated.
The Commissioner also urged residents to remain security-conscious and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency hotlines at 08065154338, 08063299264, or 09129229576.
Furthermore, CP Jimoh has ordered detectives to track down individuals responsible for spreading the false reports, warning that such acts are meant to incite fear and will not be tolerated.
The police have reiterated their stance against the spread of fake news and assured that those caught engaging in such activities will face prosecution.
As part of ongoing efforts to enhance public safety, the Lagos State Police Command has reassured residents that it remains vigilant and proactive in addressing security concerns across the state.
For now, Lagosians are advised to disregard the misleading kidnapping reports and trust verified information from official sources.
