Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that retirement benefits are processed and paid promptly to all retirees in the state.
The Head of Service, Bode Agoro reaffirmed this in his address at the send-forth ceremony organised for 223 retiring civil servants from the Third and Fourth quarters of 2024 and the First quarter of 2025.
Agoro said the present administration has put in place several initiatives and programmes to keep retirees active and remain connected to the State Government. He added that such programmes include the bi-monthly webinar, quarterly training and sensitisation, skills acquisition and vocational training as well as the mentoring scheme, among others.
He also reminded the retirees that the government has put in place the Post-Service department in the Office of the Head of Service to continually attend to all issues relating to welfare packages of the retirees and improvement in their lifestyle after retirement.
In his words, “Please feel free to approach the Post Service Directorate for further details. This initiative will encourage social interaction and prevent retirees from feeling lonely and isolated, as well as providing support in adjusting to retirement.”
”Esteemed retirees, your presence here today is a testament to the remarkable legacy you have left behind. You have been the pillars of our Civil Service, upholding professionalism, discipline, and excellence in governance. Through your dedication, you have nurtured younger colleagues, fostered collaboration, and contributed to policies and programmes that have positively impacted lives across Lagos State”, he added.
The Head of Service, who expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his steadfast support and visionary leadership, said his commitment to the welfare of the Public Servants, and most especially the retirees, has been exemplary and needs deep appreciation.
“I must recognize that your unwavering commitment has been the cornerstone of this administration’s numerous achievements and successes. Your contributions will always be evident in the policies you helped shape and the legacies you leave behind,” Agoro added.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Public Service Office, Mrs. Sunkanmi Oyegbola, acknowledged the contributions of the retirees to the development of the State and their exemplary conduct while in service.
Also, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Civil Service Commission, Mr. Wasiu Agbabiaka, in his goodwill message, urged the retirees to leverage the empowerment opportunities provided by the government to make them employers of labour and provide an alternative source of extra income from a business venture to keep them engaged.
The Director, Post Service Department, Mrs. Bukonla Durodola, acknowledged the contributions of the retirees to the development of the State and their exemplary conduct while in service.
Responding on behalf of the retirees, Mrs. Bolajoko Ajibade from the Ministry of Health expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for allowing the retirees to serve the state meritoriously.
