LAGOS EDUCATION DISTRICT II COMMISSIONS 10 LANDMARK PROJECTS IN HONOUR OF OUTGOING TG/PS ANIKE ADEKANYE ~ INN Nigeria ☆

Lagos State Education District II recently held a grand 10-in-1 Special Commissioning Ceremony, celebrating ten major achievements and projects as part of the pre-retirement activities in honour of the outgoing Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Anike Adekanye.

The event was not only a farewell to a seasoned educator and administrator but also a celebration of progress, innovation, and purposeful leadership within the public education sector.

The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, represented at the event by Mrs. Funmi Omotoso, served as the Mother of the Day.

In her address, she commended Mrs. Adekanye’s extraordinary contributions to the education sector describe the ceremony as a shining example of what can be achieved through deliberate and passionate leadership.

She noted that commissioning ten projects in a single day was both unprecedented and remarkable, emphasizing that such achievements reflect a deep commitment to shaping a better future for students, teachers, and the broader educational system.

The projects unveiled during the event included the commissioning of a staff clinic, a district fitness gym, a district hall of fame, and the launch of initiatives such as free medical screening for teachers and a free lunch program.

These projects, the First Lady noted, reflect a profound understanding of the interconnectedness between education, health, and social welfare, all of which align with the THEMES Plus Agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

Adding to the highlights of the day was the official reception and recognition of Mr. Bello Oladimeji Akeem as the Best Public School Administrator in Nigeria, alongside the celebration of Eva Adelaja Girls’ Junior School, which was named the Best Junior Public Secondary School in the country.

The event also saw the commissioning of a new district office annex, a cultural centre, and a district library, further solidifying the district’s commitment to educational excellence and cultural enrichment.

Speaking at the ceremony, Honourable Jamiu Tolani Ali-Balogun, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, congratulated Mrs. Adekanye on her distinguished service.

He highlighted her enduring legacy, which recently earned her the title of Best Outstanding Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary.

He also commended the recent donation of laboratory equipment to 58 schools within the district, urging teachers and students alike to maximize the use of these resources while ensuring their proper maintenance.

Mr. Olabode Agoro, the Lagos State Head of Service, praised Mrs. Adekanye for her compassionate and nurturing leadership.

He described her as a welfarist with a rare combination of charisma and empathy, qualities that have earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and subordinates alike.

The representative of the First Lady officially commissioned the newly established staff clinic, while the Head of Service unveiled the staff wellness centre.

In a show of appreciation for cultural excellence, students who excelled in Ewi rendition and the Yorùbá Spelling Bee were honoured with gifts and public recognition.

The event drew attendance from several dignitaries, including the Chairman of the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission, Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregrino, represented by the TESCOM Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Adebopo Oyekan-Ismaila, as well as Tutor-General/Permanent Secretaries from other education districts, the Permanent Secretary of Health District II, Dr. Dayo Lajide, and numerous school principals and students from across the district.

The 10-in-1 commissioning ceremony not only celebrated the legacy of Mrs. Anike Adekanye but also marked a defining moment in the history of Lagos State Education District II—a moment that demonstrated the transformative power of visionary leadership in the pursuit of educational excellence.
