The three-day programme, organized by Ikorodu Local Government in partnership with the Lagos State Health District II and the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), aims to provide accessible and quality eye care to residents, particularly targeting the elderly and underserved communities.
In addition to the eye screenings and distribution of eyeglasses, the initiative also offered free medical check-ups for vital signs such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Residents also received free medications, further enhancing the health impact of the outreach.
Expressing gratitude, one of the beneficiaries, Mr. Adelaja Ogunkoya commended the local government for bringing the initiative closer to the people.
“This has really helped many of us who couldn’t afford these services,” he remarked.
Similarly, the Secretary of the Indigbo Community in Ikorodu Division, Mr. Ekwelugo Emeka, praised Hon. Wasiu Adesina for his consistent support and recognition of all communities within the division.
Adding his voice, Comrade Segun Osonubi, Chairman of Agura-Iponmi Ward, described the programme as a true reflection of the dividends of democracy and called for more community-based health initiatives.

He urged the council to continue such initiatives, citing the impressive turnout of residents and the long-term health benefits of the programme.
The final day of the Jigi Bola 2.0 Free Eye Care Initiative will take place at the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat on Thursday, April 17, 2025, where more residents are expected to benefit from free eye care and medical services.
