Agura, Lagos – April 16, 2025 — His Royal Majesty, Oba Ahmed Mouruf Ogunnaike, the Alagura of Agura Kingdom in Ikorodu, has appealed to the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, to upgrade the Agura jetty into a state-standard facility to enhance water transportation and boost connectivity across the Lagos waterways.
The monarch made this passionate plea during a free health outreach program organized by the Government on Tuesday, April 16, 2025, in the Agura community.
Speaking on the current condition of the Agura jetty, Oba Ogunnaike emphasized its strategic importance in the state’s water transportation network, noting that it serves as a vital route linking several parts of Lagos Island.
Despite this significance, he lamented that the jetty has not been developed to meet the standards of other operational jetties across the state.
“Our jetty here in Agura connects major routes on the Lagos Island, just like other recognized jetties.”
“But sadly, it remains underdeveloped and lacks the necessary infrastructure to support safe and efficient water transport,” the monarch stated.
While making his appeal, the Alagura of Agura also expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for the ongoing construction of the Gberigbe road, which he acknowledged is now being extended to the Agura axis.
He praised the project as a significant milestone that would ease transportation and open up economic opportunities for residents.
Oba Ogunnaike concluded with prayers for the governor, asking God to grant him more wisdom, strength, and the capacity to fulfill his vision of transforming Lagos State into a powerful economic hub in West Africa.
