LAGOS FIRST LADY EMPOWERS 500 RESIDENTS WITH VOCATIONAL TOOLS TO BOOST SELF-RELIANCE ~ INN Nigeria ☆

The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has empowered 500 beneficiaries across the state with a wide range of vocational tools, in a determined effort to promote self-reliance, economic empowerment, and grassroots development.

The empowerment ceremony, held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, witnessed the distribution of equipment and tools in various vocational trades. Beneficiaries received essential materials in construction-related fields such as bricklaying, plumbing, welding, auto electrical work, aluminum fabrication, carpentry, and tiling. Other empowerment items included sewing machines, catering equipment, grinding machines, popcorn machines, spraying machines, and mechanical tools, among others.

Representing the First Lady at the event was the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, who reiterated the administration’s unwavering commitment to building sustainable livelihoods through strategic empowerment and skill acquisition programs.

“This initiative is aimed at supporting hardworking men and women in Lagos by giving them the necessary tools to grow their trades, become self-sufficient, and in turn, empower others within their communities,” she said.

The empowerment program was made possible through strong collaboration with key development partners, including FCMB Nigeria, Providus Bank, the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), and the Lagos State Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Investment.

By bridging the gap between skills and access to working tools, the initiative not only addresses unemployment but also sets the stage for inclusive economic growth, particularly among youth and artisans.

Several top government officials were in attendance to show support for the laudable initiative, with many describing it as a transformative effort toward reducing poverty and boosting productivity in Lagos.

The event concluded with the distribution of the tools to the selected beneficiaries, many of whom expressed gratitude and pledged to make good use of the equipment to enhance their trades and support others in need.
