The Jigi Bola 2.0 Free Eye Care and Medical Outreach officially came to a successful conclusion on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat Hall, marking the final day of the impactful three-day health initiative.
The programme, which kicked off at the Ayangburen Palace and moved to the Alagura of Agura’s Palace, came to its crescendo at the Secretariat as council officials, healthcare personnel, and hundreds of residents gathered to take advantage of the free eye screenings, distribution of glasses, and general medical check-ups.
In his closing remarks, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina, reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to people-centred governance and inclusive healthcare delivery.
He proudly disclosed that over 1,500 free eyeglasses were distributed across the three days.
“This is what governance should be about—reaching the people where they need it the most. We are proud of what we’ve accomplished in partnership with Lagos State Health District II and CHAI,” Hon. Adesina said.
The program provided free medical check-ups, including screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure, and other vital signs, alongside free medications and eyeglasses for residents with vision deficiencies.
It specifically targeted the elderly, vulnerable, and underserved residents within Ikorodu.
Many beneficiaries expressed joy and gratitude for the opportunity to benefit from the initiative:
Mrs. Modupe Adediran, a 68-year-old resident of Ipakodo, shared:
“I haven’t had a proper eye check-up in years. Today, I can finally see clearly again. May God bless Hon. Wasiu Adesina and everyone involved.”
Mr. Wasiu Kareem, a tricycle rider, added:
“These glasses have improved my vision already. It’s been a long time coming, and I am thankful to the council for bringing this right to our doorstep.”
Miss Chinaza Okonkwo, a 23-year-old student, said:
“The doctors and nurses were so kind. I got free drugs and glasses, and I didn’t spend a kobo. I hope they do more of this in the future.”
The Jigi Bola 2.0 initiative, carried out in collaboration with the Lagos State Health District II and the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), has been hailed as a major milestone in the local government’s health outreach efforts, providing hope and healthcare access to hundreds of residents.
