Fresh aspirations are beginning to emerge from within the socio-cultural body of the Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS).
Among the frontrunners is a familiar face — former Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Kolawole Olayiwola Fatai Ogunfodunrin, fondly known as “De Groom,” who has formally declared his intention to contest for the position of IKODASS Chairman, as the tenure of the current leadership nears its end.
The declaration was made on Saturday 19th of April 2025, shortly after the inauguration of the IKODASS Electoral Committee during the body’s Annual General Meeting, setting the stage for what promises to be a defining transition for the association.
A respected figure in the community, Alh. Ogunfodunrin served as Deputy Chairman of IKODASS from 2017 to 2021 under the leadership of Otunba Ganiyu Olusegun Abiru.
His involvement during that period has been widely acknowledged as instrumental in shaping the direction and impact of the association during those years.
At the AGM, Ogunfodunrin distributed his campaign brochure and a formal letter of intent to stakeholders and attendees, detailing his qualifications, vision, and passion for the continued development of Ikorodu through the platform of IKODASS.
In his letter, Alh. Ogunfodunrin introduced himself as a native of Ikorodu, hailing from the Oke-Yesufu Ogunfodunrin Compound in Ijomu and the Adifa-Kuti Family of Aga.
He highlighted his extensive experience in public service as a retired Customs Officer and his successful career as a businessman for nearly two decades.
Reflecting on his past service to IKODASS, he expressed confidence in his capacity to lead the organization to new heights, citing his understanding of its operations and the expectations of the community. He wrote:
“This rare opportunity has afforded me the privilege to understudy the knitty gritty of this great association and how we can make it better, going forward.”
He concluded by appealing for broad-based support from stakeholders across Ikorodu, emphasizing unity and collective progress:
“Let’s join hands to uplift Ikorodu and IKODASS to greater heights. The time is Now! IKODASS ARISE… IKORODU OGA, GBE’RA!!!”
Alh. Kolawole Olayiwola Fatai Ogunfodunrin currently serves as the Vice Chairman of the Ikorodu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), further cementing his credentials as a community leader with a strong background in civic and economic development.
With his declaration, attention now turns to other potential contenders as the countdown begins to the election of a new IKODASS Executive Committee.
