LAGOS, May 3, 2025 — It was a moment of pride and national recognition for Hon. Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, as he emerged as the Local Government Chairman of the Year at the prestigious AfrikanWatch Network Communications 2025 Lecture, Award, and Induction Ceremony held on Saturday at Lime Ridge Signature Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
Themed “The Nigerian Leadership Structure and Its Unsung Heroes,” the event spotlighted public servants who have made remarkable impacts away from the limelight, and Adesina stood tall among them.

With his exceptional record of infrastructural development and grassroots governance, his recognition was not just deserved—it was long overdue.

Speaking during the presentation of the African Gold Merit Award (AGMA), J. Ndubueze Ejiofor, Chairman of the Editorial Board of AfrikanWatch Network, praised Adesina for strengthening the administrative foundation of local governance in Nigeria while implementing transformational projects that have uplifted lives across Ikorodu.
The award was presented to the council chairman by Chief Nzeribe Okogbue, Chairman of the Advisory Council, alongside Mark Orgu, Editor-in-Chief of AfrikanWatch, in a ceremony attended by eminent personalities, including Prof. Olatunde Babawale, Provost of the Anti-Corruption Agency of Nigeria, who chaired the occasion, and Sam Omatseye, Chairman of the Editorial Board of The Nation newspaper, who delivered the keynote address.

In his acceptance remarks, a visibly moved Adesina attributed the award to “the good people of Ikorodu Local Government,” expressing gratitude for their unwavering support throughout his tenure.
“This honour belongs to every resident, every civil servant, and every member of my team who believes in the vision we share for a better Ikorodu,” he declared.
Adesina further emphasized that the award serves as a call to deepen efforts in service delivery, promising to intensify developmental projects, community engagement, and administrative reforms.

The 2025 Lecture and Award Ceremony underscored the significance of recognizing unsung heroes in governance.
Hon. Adesina’s celebration stood as a testament to what is achievable when visionary leadership meets grassroots commitment.
