On May 3, 2025, Hon. Aro Moshood Abiodun (AMA), the representative of Ikorodu Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, officially flagged off the construction of an 8-kilometer road linking Jimoh Idowu and Ama Avenue in the Abule Eko area of Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA), in a major move to boost infrastructure and enhance connectivity.
The road project is set to significantly improve transportation and economic activity between the two critical communities.
Upon completion, the road is expected to significantly reduce travel time for residents, unlock commercial opportunities in underdeveloped neighborhoods, and improve access to essential facilities such as markets, schools, and healthcare centers in the region.
Addressing attendees at the flag-off ceremony, Hon. Aro expressed profound appreciation to Lagos State Governor Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu and Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, for their unwavering support and attentiveness to the needs of Ikorodu residents.
Highlighting the road as one of the dividends of democracy, Hon. Aro noted that the massive support Ikorodu delivered during the last elections played a crucial role in attracting the project.
“This road construction is a fulfillment of the votes Ikorodu delivered in the last election. I urge the community to keep showing up in large numbers and continue speaking with their votes for more development,” he stated.
Hon. Aro also gave updates on the ongoing road works at Ilupeju, assuring the community of timely delivery.
“The state government is working closely with the contractor, and proper actions have been taken to ensure timely completion,” he said.
He concluded by encouraging the community to remain prayerful and supportive of government initiatives. “Let us unite in prayer and support for our leaders and the government’s efforts to transform our communities.”
Speaking during the brief but impactful ceremony, Executive Chairman of Ijede LCDA, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba charged the contractors to source materials and manpower locally, thereby empowering the host community.
She also appealed for maximum cooperation from residents along AMA Avenue and Jimoh Idowu to facilitate smooth execution.
“This project is a testament to our commitment to grassroots development,” she said. “We implore the contractors to engage and empower our people, and I urge our community to be patient and supportive. Together, we can achieve lasting progress.”
She reaffirmed her administration’s dedication to delivering democratic dividends and improving quality of life and commerce through impactful projects.
Engineer Ogunshanya Lukman from the Lagos State Ministry of Works praised Hon. Aro’s consistent contributions to infrastructure development in Ikorodu.
“This project is another milestone in the series of impactful projects delivered by Hon. Aro Moshood. The two roads, Ama Avenue and Jimoh Idowu, are interconnected and span nearly eight kilometers in total,” he noted.
He emphasized that the event also served to sensitize residents on the project’s scope and possible temporary disruptions.
“There might be minor disruptions, especially concerning buildings and structures close to the construction line. It is important that residents understand this as a necessary part of progress,” he added.
He disclosed that the project is slated for completion within 12 months and called on the community to cooperate fully with the contractors.
Comrade Kehinde Fesomu, Chairman of the Community Development Association (CDA), speaking on behalf of residents, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Aro for his steadfast representation and dedication to community development.
“We thank Hon. Aro Moshood for representing us well and always bringing our needs to the attention of the state government. His dedication has ensured that the voices of our community are heard at the highest levels,” she said.
She also thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu and Speaker Obasa for their support and urged Hon. Aro to push for the completion of other ongoing road projects in the constituency.
“While this road construction brings hope and relief to our community, we kindly implore Hon. Aro to help us look into other ongoing road projects, so they can also be completed for the benefit of the entire constituency,” she concluded.
The flag-off ceremony stands as another clear indication of Hon. Aro Moshood’s unwavering commitment to grassroots development in Ikorodu.
Residents and stakeholders have expressed optimism that the project will ease transportation challenges and stimulate local commerce, underscoring the synergy between state and local governments in addressing infrastructural needs across Ikorodu Constituency II.
