Residents of Ito Community in Ikorodu North LCDA, Lagos State, have showered praises on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu following the commencement of the grading of a critical 5-kilometre road, a long-awaited infrastructural project that is already transforming the face of the rural settlement.
The road project, executed through the Lagos State Office of Rural Development, is part of the government’s broader rural infrastructure development program aimed at improving access, easing transportation burdens, and enhancing the socio-economic potential of rural communities.

The ongoing grading work stretches across a strategic section of the Ito community, linking inner roads to major access points, farmlands, schools, and marketplaces, which for years have been difficult to reach due to poor road conditions, especially during the rainy season.
Mr. Taiwo Dosumu, Chairman of the Ito Community Development Association (CDA), described the road as the “spine of the community” and emphasized how its rehabilitation would drastically reduce travel time and vehicle maintenance costs, improve emergency response, and encourage investment.
“The 5km Ito Community Road is essential to our daily lives and overall growth. This initiative reconnects us to opportunities we’ve been cut off from for too long.”
“We sincerely appreciate Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his proactive approach and unwavering commitment to grassroots development,” Mr. Dosumu stated.
Chief Bika Monsuru, Chairman of the community’s Project Committee, disclosed that the grading is expected to be completed within 12 weeks.
He noted that this is the first phase of a larger development agenda which includes eventual road surfacing and drainage construction to ensure durability.
“The grading has already started making a difference. Movement has become easier, and our farmers can now transport goods more efficiently.”

“The Office of Rural Development has been consistent in following up with contractors and engaging with our local monitoring team to ensure quality,” Chief Monsuru remarked.
He further commended Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, for being a driving force behind the project.
According to him, Dr. Agbaje has not only visited the community to assess their needs but has remained accessible and responsive to their concerns.
“It is through the consistent efforts of Dr. Agbaje that this road project has come to life. His dedication to rural advancement has made a significant impact, and we are truly grateful,” he added.
Acknowledging the project’s advancement, the Eweye of Isiu Kingdom, HRM Oba Olukayode David Raji, also commended the Lagos State Governor and the Office of Rural Development for their commitment and support.
The Ito Road Project is a testament to the Sanwo-Olu administration’s inclusive governance strategy and rural transformation agenda, reinforcing the government’s resolve to bridge the urban-rural divide by delivering meaningful infrastructure to underserved communities.
As work progresses, residents are optimistic that this initiative will not only boost economic activity but also attract further development to the region, including healthcare, education, and agricultural support services.
