LIONS CLUB EXECUTES STRATEGIC RECYCLING PROJECT TO EMPOWER RESIDENTS AND PROMOTE ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH ~ INN Nigeria ☆

On May 10, 2025, the Ikorodu Peculiar Lions Club executed a strategic recycling and sanitation project at ADRAZ Delicious Eatery, located at the Federal Low-Cost Estate Gate, Sabo, Ikorodu.

The initiative marked another milestone in the club’s ongoing effort to combat environmental degradation while empowering individuals through waste-to-wealth initiatives.

The project, which aligns with the global Lions Club International cause area of “Environmental Sustainability,” was not only a clean-up exercise but a platform to educate the community on the value of proper waste management.

The initiative emphasized how recyclable materials such as plastics, bottles, and cartons—often discarded as refuse—could be transformed into a source of income for local residents, especially unemployed youth.

Speaking on the motive behind the event, Lion Aminat Sanusi, President of Ikorodu Peculiar Lions Club, reiterated the club’s commitment to both humanitarian and environmental causes.

“Our goal is to build a cleaner and healthier Ikorodu while also showing our people that waste can be turned into wealth. This is not just about cleaning; it’s about creating lasting solutions,” she said.

Charter President of the club, Lion Akinosho David, who has been at the forefront of various community-focused initiatives, stressed the urgency of embracing eco-friendly practices.

“Environmental issues are not the government’s responsibility alone. As Lions, we are service-minded, and we understand that keeping our community clean is a shared responsibility. Recycling is one way we can all contribute to a safer and healthier world,” he noted.

Also present at the project were prominent club members: Lion Nuga Femi, Lion Fuad Alapufuja, Lion Oshomoji Oluwadamilare, and Lion Kumapayi Foluso.

These Lions actively participated in the hands-on activities and community engagement during the event. Their involvement further underscored the club’s team-driven approach to service.

Service Chairperson Lion Kayode Aluko emphasized that recycling not only curbs environmental hazards but also educates the public on sustainable living.

“Every small step toward recycling is a leap toward saving our planet,” he stated during the initiative.

Volunteer members of the club engaged local residents and business owners during the exercise, encouraging them to sort their waste and embrace a culture of recycling.

The event concluded with a renewed sense of commitment among participants, who pledged to continue sensitizing the community and expanding the project’s reach. As part of its sustainability plan, the club is looking to collaborate with local recycling firms and launch more community clean-up drives in Ikorodu and neighbouring areas.

The Ikorodu Peculiar Lions Club continues to set the pace in grassroots environmental advocacy, inspiring action and change—one project at a time.
