The Lagos State Government on Friday, 16th of May 2025, officially flagged off the construction of 1.5km Dayo Akinyemi Off Ikene Road in Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), in a significant move to enhance road infrastructure and stimulate economic activity in the Ikorodu region.

The road project is being facilitated by Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye, the representative of Ikorodu Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly, through the Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.

The groundbreaking ceremony attracted wide participation from community stakeholders, traditional leaders, and officials of the state government.

Speaking during the event, Hon. Ogunleye emphasized the importance of the road construction in connecting binding communities and boosting local economic activities.

He noted, “This project will significantly improve transportation within the axis, and serve as a catalyst for effective commercial engagements in the surrounding communities.”

Hon. Ogunleye also used the opportunity to commend the ongoing developmental strides of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, particularly through the Office of Rural Development led by Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje.

“Dr. Agbaje is not just a government official, but a proud son of the soil who has ensured that Ikorodu is not left out of this administration’s infrastructural development efforts across the rural areas of the state,” he said.

He assured the public that the project will be completed and delivered within a 12-month timeframe.

In his remarks, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, hailed the project as a major infrastructural gain for Ikorodu Division.

He recalled that just a week prior, the Lagos State Office of Rural Development had flagged off the construction of the 1.3km Monsuru Egbeyemi/Alhaja Agbaje Street road in Ikorodu Central, signaling a steady and strategic drive to modernize rural road networks in the state.

“The commitment of Mr. Governor to improving infrastructure in underserved regions remains unwavering. Our goal is to bring tangible development to every corner of Lagos State,” Dr. Agbaje affirmed.

Engineer Lookman Ogunsanya, representing the Lagos State Ministry of Infrastructure, was present to provide technical assurance of the project’s quality and timely execution.

Also in attendance was the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA, Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olarenwaju, who lauded the state government’s intervention, describing it as a welcome development that would ease mobility and stimulate growth.

The new road is expected to serve as a key connector between Unity Estate CDA and Owutu Ire-Akari CDA, ultimately linking into the agric major road, a crucial route in the region.

Community leaders also expressed their appreciation for the long-anticipated project.

Mr. Bola Oni, Chairman of Unity Estate CDA, and Mr. Hassan Balogun, Chairman of Owutu Ire-Akari CDA, both described the intervention as timely and essential for the wellbeing of their communities.

Mr. Abiodun Sunday, Secretary of the Community Development Committee (CDC) in Ikorodu West, labeled the project as a “major relief” for residents who have long endured the challenges of poor road connectivity in the area.

As the construction begins in earnest, hopes are high among residents that the road will usher in a new era of development, ease of movement, and economic prosperity for the Ikorodu West LCDA and beyond.
