LASG PARTNERS WITH GIZ SKYE TO TRAIN 530 YOUTHS ON EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS AT EKO JOB CENTRE, IKORODU ~ INN Nigeria ☆

The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, has partnered with GIZ SKYE (Skills Development for Youth Employment) to train 530 unemployed and tech-inclined youths on critical employability skills, in a bold step toward tackling youth unemployment and fostering digital inclusion.

The initiative, tagged Industry Insider Series, was officially flagged off on Wednesday, May 15, 2025, at the Eko Job Centre, Owutu, Ikorodu. The Honourable Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Hon. Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe, represented by the Permanent Secretary, ESV Olayinka Adebayo Wasiu, declared the programme open.

Delivering his remarks, ESV Olayinka emphasized that the job counselling sessions are strategically designed to improve job-readiness among youths by focusing on CV writing, workplace ethics, digital inclusion, and exposure to the rapidly evolving tech industry.

“This training will boost the confidence of unemployed youth, enabling them to apply for jobs more effectively, speak professionally, and manage workplace challenges. Employers are more inclined to hire candidates who are well-prepared and exhibit workplace readiness,” Olayinka said.

He further acknowledged the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to youth empowerment and social inclusion — two critical pillars of the administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda.

In a message relayed on behalf of the Commissioner, the Ministry reassured participants of the government’s resolve to support their growth. “We are gathered here because we believe in your potential, and with the right skills, guidance, and support, you can transform your lives and contribute meaningfully to the growth of our communities and the nation,” Ajigbotafe noted.

The Industry Insider Series is set to run for eight months, comprising 15 intensive sessions facilitated by seasoned professionals across diverse industries. The initiative aims to equip participants with relevant skills that align with industry demands.

The Permanent Secretary also commended GIZ SKYE for its instrumental role in renovating the Owutu Job Centre, describing the collaboration as a testament to the Ministry’s strategic focus on public-private partnerships for driving innovation and capacity building.

He urged participants to remain focused, disciplined, and proactive, stressing that the knowledge and exposure gained from the training would significantly enhance their career trajectories.

As part of its larger employability strategy, the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment has established five Job Centres across Lagos State’s IBILE zones – Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island, and Epe – offering services such as career counselling, digital training, and job placement support.

This initiative reinforces the Sanwo-Olu-led administration’s vision for A Greater Lagos Rising, where youth development remains at the forefront of sustainable economic progress.
