The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, has stated that rural areas in Lagos are fast catching up with their urban counterparts in terms of development, in a renewed assurance of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to balanced infrastructural development across the state.
Dr. Agbaje made this assertion on Friday, 16th May 2025, during the official flag-off ceremony of the construction of 1.5km Dayo Akinyemi Off Ikene Road, situated in Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
The road project, set to transform accessibility and connectivity in the area, is being facilitated by Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye, Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ikorodu Constituency I, in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.
Speaking to journalists, Dr. Agbaje highlighted the fast-paced developmental strides under the Sanwo-Olu administration, particularly in rural communities.
He emphasized that with the consistent infrastructural upgrades being rolled out across local councils, many rural communities in Lagos would soon match the living conditions and amenities available in the more developed urban centres.
“Though the needs of man and communities are insatiable, we must acknowledge the unprecedented efforts of this administration in uplifting infrastructure statewide. These strides cannot be overemphasized,” Dr. Agbaje stated.
Using his own office as a case study, Dr. Agbaje explained that the Governor’s open-door policy has empowered many communities to bring forward their pressing developmental needs.
This inclusivity has enabled the Office of Rural Development to carry out numerous on-the-spot assessments, paving the way for targeted intervention projects.
“As we speak, several projects have been completed, others are currently being implemented, and many more have been approved for execution,” he disclosed.
Dr. Agbaje commended Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye for his legislative facilitation of the project and reiterated the Lagos State Government’s unwavering resolve to bridge the developmental gap between rural and urban areas.
The Dayo Akinyemi Off Ikene Road project represents yet another milestone in the state’s comprehensive rural transformation plan, a core component of the THEMES+ development agenda being pursued vigorously by Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
