The Ikorodu Local Government on Monday, May 19, 2025, financially empowered ten women—comprising widows, single mothers, and vulnerable individuals—to cushion the effects of economic hardship in the community, in a gesture of compassion and commitment to grassroots welfare.
The empowerment program was held at the council secretariat in celebration of the 43rd birthday of Alhaja Rashidat Bello, the Special Adviser to the Chairman on Women Affairs and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Woman Leader in Ikorodu Division.
Each beneficiary received a financial grant of fifty thousand naira (₦50,000), presented by Alhaja Bello herself, as a show of empathy and solidarity with women facing economic challenges.

The initiative, according to the council, was designed to support selected women in sustaining their families and small-scale businesses amid the prevailing economic downturn.

Speaking during the event, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina emphasized that the women were carefully selected based on a thorough need assessment.
He noted that the council remains committed to implementing inclusive and impactful policies that touch the lives of the most vulnerable residents, particularly women.

“This empowerment is not just a celebration of a birthday, but a celebration of compassion and responsibility towards our people. These women were identified because their stories and situations call for urgent intervention,” Hon. Adesina remarked.
Expressing her gratitude, one of the beneficiaries, Ms. Anna praised the council’s continued efforts in supporting women in need. “I am sincerely grateful for this support. It shows that the council sees us and cares about our struggles. This will go a long way in helping me restart my small trade,” she said.

The program reflects Ikorodu Local Government’s ongoing efforts to prioritize women’s development and social inclusion, particularly through responsive governance and people-oriented policies.
