The Lagos State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development has unveiled a robust account of its achievements across all 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), underscoring its steadfast commitment to grassroots development, administrative efficiency, and community welfare.

This was disclosed at the Year 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Bagaulda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa-Ikeja, by the Honourable Commissioner, Mr. Bolaji Kayode Robert, who emphasized the Ministry’s strategic interventions and collaborative governance under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

Among the key highlights was the payment of N775,071,226.16 in insurance benefits to 271 beneficiaries—families of deceased staff from the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and Local Government Councils who passed on while in active service.

This initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to supporting the welfare of its workforce and their families.

While addressing members of the press, Mr. Robert further revealed that the Ministry successfully processed 85 Capital Projects across the 57 councils.

These projects, he explained, received necessary approvals and underwent continuous monitoring and inspection to ensure adherence to standards and accountability for taxpayers’ funds.

He added that the Ministry resolved 104 petitions, demonstrating its responsiveness to public concerns and commitment to transparent service delivery.

In the area of public health, the Ministry intensified environmental sanitation advocacy within markets across the State, working in synergy with Community Development Associations (CDAs) and traditional rulers to enhance hygiene practices among meat sellers and market stakeholders—thereby proactively preventing disease outbreaks.

Mr. Robert also emphasized the administration’s ongoing efforts to align market infrastructure development with public health and safety.

He highlighted a strong partnership with the Office of the First Lady of Lagos State and the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO) in hosting hygiene and security seminars for market leaders in key districts.

These seminars have served to raise awareness and educate market executives on best practices for maintaining safe and clean trading environments.

He reported that the Lagos State Market Development Board, under the Ministry’s supervision, completed the construction of 15 public toilet and borehole facilities across markets in all five administrative divisions of the State.

He disclosed that the Ministry is set to commence similar interventions in 98 additional markets in the coming months—aimed at addressing water and sanitation challenges for market users.

On cultural preservation, Mr. Robert affirmed that the administration of Governor Sanwo-Olu has continued to strengthen the traditional institution in Lagos through retreats and stakeholder meetings with traditional rulers.

He listed some of the major achievements in this regard, including the renovation of Elemoro Palace, construction of the Olowu of Owu-Ikosi’s Palace, and the installation of 10 new Obas.

Furthermore, the Ministry issued 123 recognition letters to Baales and Chiefs, reinforcing the government’s commitment to preserving heritage and fostering leadership in rural and semi-urban communities.

The Honourable Commissioner also mentioned that the Ministry had effectively resolved intra-LGA boundary disputes, installed 22 boundary signposts, and facilitated numerous community mediations, which helped prevent clashes and promote peaceful coexistence.

These initiatives, he noted, contribute significantly to sustaining Lagos’ reputation as Nigeria’s leading business-friendly state.

Additionally, the Ministry issued a total of 14 regulatory circulars, 43 special licenses, 12 church licenses, and distributed 176 marital documents to councils for official use.

These actions have helped maintain order, legality, and administrative efficiency in both civic and religious affairs across the state.

Concluding the briefing, Mr. Robert reaffirmed the Ministry’s unwavering dedication to inclusive governance and continuous improvement.

“We are proud to lead from the front and ensure that governance reaches the grassroots,” he stated.

“Our work is about people, partnerships, and progress. And as always, our doors remain open to innovation, feedback, and inclusive growth.”
