The Lagos State Government, through the Office of Rural Development, officially handed over the keys to a newly constructed public toilet and water system to leaders of Ilogbo-Eremi Kingdom in Badagry Local Government Area, in a bid to enhance sanitation and access to clean water in rural communities.
The symbolic key presentation took place on Friday, May 23, 2025, at the Alausa office of Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development.
On behalf of the Office of Rural Development, Mr. Fadunsi Ebenezer, Head of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Department in the technical division of the Ministry, presented the facility keys to three notable community representatives: High Chief Daniel Oyekunle, the Ajaguna of Ilogbo-Eremi Kingdom; Chief Kehinde Oseni, the Baale of Ilogbo-Eremi Kingdom; and Mr. Ibrahim Idowu, a respected member of the community.
Mr. Fadunsi noted that the project aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration’s ongoing commitment to improving hygiene and environmental health standards across rural areas in Lagos.
He emphasized that such facilities are critical to ending open defecation and promoting healthier living conditions in underserved regions.
In their remarks, the Ilogbo-Eremi community leaders expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for its continuous support and responsiveness to grassroots needs.
They assured that the facilities would be properly managed and maintained for the benefit of all residents.
“This is a welcome development for our kingdom, and we thank the Office of Rural Development for ensuring we are not left out of the state’s infrastructural progress,” said High Chief Daniel Oyekunle.
The project is part of a larger rural sanitation drive being spearheaded by the Office of Rural Development under the guidance of Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje aimed at improving living conditions and promoting community well-being across Lagos State.
