The Chairman of the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission (LSLGSC), Hon. Kamal Ayinde Bayewu, led an official working visit to the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat on Friday, May 23, 2025.

The purpose of the visit was to engage with the local government leadership and staff. It formed part of a broader initiative aimed at assessing staff operations and strengthening institutional relations at the grassroots level.

The LSLGSC team received a warm welcome from Hon. Wasiu Adesina, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu LG, who was accompanied by his management team and council staff.

The reception reflected the mutual respect and collaboration between the state commission and the local administration.

While addressing the gathering, Hon. Bayewu emphasized the Commission’s ongoing effort to promote staff discipline, efficiency, and accountability across the 57 LGs and LCDAs in Lagos.

He described the visit as part of a wider tour aimed at fostering transparency and improving the working environment of local government employees.

He took time to acknowledge the visible transformation within the Ikorodu Secretariat, especially in terms of infrastructure and administrative order, attributing it to the leadership qualities of Hon. Adesina and his team.

Also contributing to the deliberation, Hon. Hakeem Adisa Bangbala expressed admiration for the infrastructural upgrades at the council.

He noted that such improvements enhance staff productivity and public perception. He reiterated that the purpose of the visit was to observe staff performance, evaluate welfare systems, and suggest practical improvements.

In another presentation, Mrs. Ajayi Omobola, representing the office of the Permanent Secretary, discussed the Commission’s new strategies, including a knowledge-sharing initiative that will be managed by the human resources unit of each council.

The program is designed to promote learning, mentorship, and institutional knowledge transfer.

She also announced that the Commission is preparing to launch a statewide reward scheme to identify and celebrate exceptional staff across all council secretariats.

This, she said, is aimed at encouraging a culture of excellence in service delivery.

Responding to the visit, Hon. Wasiu Adesina praised the Commission for its proactive approach and for maintaining consistent engagement with his council, noting that this was the fifth such visit under the current administration.

He reaffirmed his administration’s focus on staff welfare, revealing that a 43% increase in staff allowances was implemented the previous week to boost morale.

He further explained that although his tenure is nearing its end, his dedication to improving the council’s working conditions remains a top priority.

According to him, delivering a functional and well-maintained Secretariat is one of his administration’s parting goals.

In addition to welfare improvements, Hon. Adesina cited achievements such as the rehabilitation of office buildings, provision of ICT tools, and introduction of capacity-building workshops to equip staff with up-to-date skills for modern public service operations.

An open forum was held, allowing staff to ask questions and voice their opinions while also receiving encouragement from the Commission’s leadership.

Many employees used the opportunity to express gratitude for the improved working environment and the chairman’s leadership style.

As the visit concluded, Hon. Bayewu charged all staff members to remain dedicated and uphold high standards in their duties, stressing that the local government workforce plays a critical role in the overall development of the state.

The LSLGSC team later inspected several departments within the Secretariat, commending the quality of facilities and interactions they observed. The tour ended with a renewed commitment to closer collaboration between the Commission and local councils.
