
As he clocks 79, veteran media icon and trailblazer, Prince Ganny Awobajo, has been lauded by the Ikorodu News Network (INN) for his exceptional contributions to journalism and community development in Nigeria.
Eromona Michael, widely known as Sir Mikky and serving as the Creative Director of INN, issued a heartfelt message of commendation on May 26, 2025, celebrating the impactful legacy of his mentor, Prince Ganny Awobajo—the Chief Publisher of Ikorodu Newspaper, Nigeria’s first community newspaper, established in 1983.
Describing Prince Awobajo as a “trailblazer and pathfinder,” Sir Mikky acknowledged that the veteran journalist’s visionary approach to media laid the foundational blueprint for community-driven journalism across the country.
“Ikorodu Newspaper wasn’t just a publication; it was a movement. It birthed an entire media ecosystem dedicated to serving local communities and voicing grassroots perspectives,” he stated.
Prince Awobajo, fondly referred to as the Agba Akin of Odonla, is a respected figure not only in journalism but also in civic engagement.
A former president of the Rotary Club, he is known for his community service, leadership, and mentorship that transcends generations.
Beyond his professional accolades, Prince Awobajo is a revered family man—a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
