
Ikorodu, Lagos | May 28, 2025 — A tragic incident struck the heart of Ikorodu as a two-storey building collapsed along Obafemi Awolowo Way in the Ota–Ona axis on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, coinciding with the annual Oro Festival.
The catastrophic event resulted in the deaths of three individuals, while ten others were rescued alive from the debris.
Initial reports indicated that a total of 13 persons were trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
Swift response from emergency services, including the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and officers from the Federal Fire Service, ensured the rescue of several victims, although efforts were unable to save all.
In the wake of the incident, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the disaster scene on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

Hon. Adesina extended heartfelt condolences to the Ogayemi Osinowo family, who own the ill-fated property, as well as other families affected by the tragedy.
“God knows why this unfortunate event occurred,” Hon. Adesina stated solemnly, encouraging the grieving families to take heart and remain strong in this difficult period.
He also confirmed that the Lagos State Government has commenced a thorough investigation into the cause of the building collapse.
He appealed to the affected families and the general public to exercise patience while the findings and interventions unfold.
During his inspection, Hon. Adesina raised an alarm regarding a nearby 2-storey building in close proximity to the collapsed structure, which he said has also shown signs of structural weakness.

In the interest of public safety, he advised the occupants and property owners to vacate the compromised building immediately to prevent further loss of life.
