ON-STREET PARKING CAMPAIGN: LASPA PARTNERS MINISTRY OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT FOR ENHANCED PUBLIC SENSITISATION ~ INN Nigeria ☆

The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development to commence its ‘On-Street Parking Campaign’ in select areas of the state.

The initiative was unveiled during a high-level meeting held today between LASPA and the Ministry, aimed at fostering greater collaboration and synergy for effective implementation of the parking reforms. Speaking at the session, the General Manager of LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, disclosed that preparations have been concluded for the pilot phase of the campaign in Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Yaba, Ikeja, and Surulere.

Mrs. Adelabu revealed that the Authority had earlier engaged Chairmen of Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) to inform them about the planned campaign. She stressed the importance of grassroots support in ensuring the campaign’s success, calling for wider engagement with members of Community Development Associations (CDAs) and Community Development Committees (CDCs).

“In order to achieve the goals of the On-Street Parking Campaign, we believe that proper sensitisation at the community level is crucial. This is why we are seeking the support of the Ministry to facilitate our outreach to CDAs and CDCs across the designated zones,” she said.

Responding, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mr. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, welcomed the partnership and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to the success of the campaign. He suggested that LASPA be formally invited to engage directly with local council officials in a structured session, thereby establishing a more effective communication channel and collaborative framework.

“This initiative is timely and aligns with the government’s broader goal of ensuring orderliness and improved urban management. We will work closely with LASPA to ensure its smooth rollout and public acceptance,” Mr. Bolarinwa affirmed.

The On-Street Parking Campaign, when implemented, is expected to address indiscriminate parking, enhance traffic flow, and promote a saner urban transportation environment across the state.
