SENATOR TOKUNBO ABIRU DISTRIBUTES EID-EL-KABIR FOOD PACKS TO 12,000 LAGOS EAST HOUSEHOLDS TO EASE ECONOMIC BURDEN ~ INN Nigeria ☆

In celebration of Eid-el-Kabir and as part of his ongoing commitment to the welfare of his constituents, the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, distributed food packs to 12,000 households across the district.

The distribution, held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, spanned all 16 Local Government and Local Council Development Areas (LGs/LCDAs) within Lagos East.

It was a deliberate intervention aimed at mitigating the impact of the prevailing economic hardship, especially the high cost of food items, and ensuring families can celebrate the Sallah season with dignity and joy.

Beneficiaries—including persons living with disabilities, the elderly, women, and unemployed youth—were drawn from across Ikorodu, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Kosofe, and Somolu. Many were selected through an open online nomination process. The distributed food packs contained essential items such as rice and garri.

Speaking at the Ikorodu Constituency Office during the distribution, Senator Abiru, who chairs the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, emphasized that the initiative is part of his broader support strategy for constituents during major festivities.

“This programme underscores our unrelenting commitment to the well-being of the people of Lagos East. At a time when many families are grappling with economic difficulties, we must show solidarity and compassion.”

“Eid-el-Kabir offers an opportunity to stand together in faith, support, and community,” he said.

Senator Abiru expressed hope that the intervention would complement ongoing efforts by the Federal and Lagos State Governments in tackling food insecurity and economic instability.

“We must continue to work collaboratively—across all levels of government—to reduce the burdens on our people. I commend the ongoing government initiatives addressing the cost of living, and remain committed to supporting our communities in every possible way.

“I wish all Muslim faithful a blessed, peaceful, and joyous Eid-el-Kabir. May this sacred season renew our strength, deepen our faith, and inspire unity and kindness among us,” he concluded.

Commending the Senator’s gesture, prominent figures including the former Deputy Governor of Lagos State and APC apex leader in Ikorodu Division, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, lauded his commitment to the people.

Senator Abiru’s consistent delivery of impactful programmes—ranging from digital skills training and educational support to business grants and humanitarian outreach—continues under his flagship #DoingGood initiative, a comprehensive model for sustainable development and social upliftment in Lagos East.
