Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, today unveiled three new train sets for the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line at the iconic National Theatre Station, marking a major milestone in the state’s urban mobility transformation.
Each newly commissioned train set consists of four modern cars, effectively doubling the current passenger capacity on the Blue Line.
This expansion is poised to significantly enhance daily commuting for thousands of Lagosians by reducing wait times, improving travel speeds, and boosting the overall reliability of the rail service.
The state government is aiming to achieve a 10-minute train arrival frequency on the Blue Line, thereby aligning with global best practices in urban transit.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for their unwavering support throughout the procurement and delivery process.
“I’m deeply grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for their strong support. From procurement to delivery, their backing made this possible,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
He further revealed that Lagosians can expect even greater advancements in the near future. “Before the end of the year, we’ll receive new trains for the Red Line, which will have twice the capacity of the Blue Line trains,” the Governor announced.
In addition to these developments, construction work on Phase 2 of the Blue Line, extending from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko, is progressing steadily.
This expansion is expected to further increase connectivity across the state, offering more residents access to affordable and efficient public transportation.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revolutionizing urban mobility in Lagos through continuous investment in modern infrastructure.
“We’re building infrastructure and a better future for urban mobility in Lagos. And we’re just getting started,” he concluded.
The Blue Line, one of the key components of the state’s integrated mass transit system, has already begun transforming the commuting experience in Lagos, reducing congestion on the roads and contributing to the state’s broader environmental and economic goals.
