Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has firmly dismissed rumours of any discord between himself and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing their relationship as one rooted in mutual respect, loyalty, and affection.
The Governor addressed the matter on Sunday, June 8, 2025, while responding to a question from an NTA News reporter shortly after his private meeting with the President in Lagos.
When the reporter inquired about an alleged strain in his relationship with the nation’s number one citizen, Governor Sanwo-Olu, wearing a broad smile, responded lightheartedly:
“Even you asking the question, you’re smiling, and I am smiling because you didn’t see any discord. There is none,” he said, drawing laughter from the reporter.
The Governor went further to express surprise that such rumours would even surface, cautioning against those who derive satisfaction from stirring baseless controversies.
“There are people that think they’re more Catholic than the Pope. You will also see some people cry more than the bereaved,” he remarked, using a popular expression to underscore how outsiders often exaggerate or misinterpret cordial relationships.
Emphasising the strength of his personal and political bond with President Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu described their connection as one akin to that of a devoted son to his father.
“Our relationship is like that of a father and son. And we are grateful that the President is always giving us the audience to come in and say hello to him. He is my father and leader,” he concluded.
