TWO ARRESTED FOR ILLEGAL REFUSE DUMPING IN IKORODU, FACE IMMEDIATE PROSECUTION ~ INN Nigeria ☆

Ikorodu, Lagos – June 11, 2025, In a renewed crackdown on environmental offenders, the Lagos State Government has apprehended two individuals for illegal refuse dumping alongEbute-Ipakodo Road in Ikorodu.

The suspects, identified as 22-year-old Simeon David Akpata and 28-year-old Miss Oluwamotemi Otunba, were caught in the act earlier today, thanks to the intervention of a vigilant Lagos resident who promptly alerted state enforcement agents and ensured their arrest at the scene.

The incident was confirmed by the Lagos State Commissioner for the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, via an official statement on his X (formerly Twitter) handle.

“Simeon David Akpata – 22yrs and Miss Oluwamotemi Otunba – 28yrs were found dumping refuse along Ebute-Ipakodo Road earlier today by a concerned Lagosian who accosted and ensured that they were arrested by our enforcement agents,” the statement read. “They will be tried immediately in accordance with the relevant laws of the state.”

Commissioner Wahab further used the platform to commend the concerned citizen who acted responsibly to report the offense, describing the gesture as a model example of civic engagement.

He reiterated the state government’s commitment to maintaining a clean and livable environment through the enforcement of strict environmental laws.

“While we appreciate the effort of this concerned Lagosian, we reiterate that a Cleaner Lagos is a collective responsibility of everyone. Keep your environment clean and stop the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the drainages,” he added.

The Lagos State Government has in recent months intensified its environmental enforcement drive across the state, particularly in flood-prone and densely populated areas like Ikorodu.

Authorities have repeatedly warned that individuals caught violating sanitation laws will face the full weight of the law.

The two suspects are expected to be arraigned before a magistrate in accordance with existing environmental statutes.

Residents have been urged to maintain proper waste disposal habits and report any act of environmental abuse to appropriate authorities as the government pushes forward with its “Cleaner Lagos” campaign.
