The Ikorodu Peculiar Lions Club continued its community-driven environmental campaign on Wednesday, June 12, 2025, with the evacuation of a plastic recycling basket located at ADRAZ Delicious Eatery in the Federal Low Cost Estate, Ikorodu.
The exercise was part of the club’s broader mission to promote environmental sustainability and responsible waste management across the Ikorodu community.
The club president, Lion Aminat Sanusi, led the operation, which drew the participation of several dedicated members of the club.
She noted that the initiative is not only aimed at keeping the environment clean but also at encouraging residents and local businesses to adopt the culture of recycling and environmental responsibility.
According to her, regular evacuation and maintenance of the recycling points are crucial to ensuring their continued impact and effectiveness.
The evacuation saw active involvement from key members of the club, including the Club’s Service Chairperson, Lion Aluko Kayode, who coordinated the process, and the Charter President, Lion David Akinosho, who praised the efforts as a reflection of the club’s enduring commitment to community service.
Other members present during the exercise included Lion Fuad Alapafuja, Lion Nuga Femi, Lion Akinlolu Oxygen, Lion Quadri Oladimeji, Lion Amaechi Ukamaka, Lion Agunbiade Victor, and Lion Christian Nwaogu. Their collective participation underlined the spirit of unity and volunteerism that drives the club’s activities.
In remarks made during the evacuation, Lion Aluko Kayode reaffirmed the club’s vision to extend the reach of its environmental project to other locations in Ikorodu.
He emphasized that the plastic recycling initiative is designed not just as a cleanup effort but as a tool for community education and youth empowerment.
By creating avenues for recyclable waste to be collected and processed, the club hopes to inspire more people to view waste as a resource rather than a nuisance.
Members of the community and patrons of ADRAZ Delicious Eatery commended the club’s initiative, acknowledging the visible difference the recycling basket had made in maintaining a cleaner environment in the area.
Many expressed a renewed awareness about the importance of recycling and the role individuals can play in sustaining a healthier community.
The collected plastic waste from the evacuation is set to be sorted and transferred to recycling partners, in line with the club’s goal of turning waste into wealth and promoting eco-friendly entrepreneurship among the youth.
The initiative aligns with the Environment Pillar of Lions Club International, which champions environmental protection, climate action, and pollution reduction.
