
Owode-Ibelefun, Lagos — June 18, 2025, In a significant milestone for community-led development, the Lagos State Office of Rural Development yesterday participated in the official commissioning and handover of six newly constructed classroom blocks located within the Owode-Ibelefun community in Ibeshe.
The educational project was initiated and executed by the Ibeshe Kingdom Development Association (IKIDASS) and officially handed over to the Lagos State Ministry of Education on June 18, 2025.
Representing the Office at the event was Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development.
He commended IKIDASS for its unwavering commitment to grassroots development and for prioritizing access to quality education for local schoolchildren.
Dr. Agbaje emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in community-driven initiatives, stating that such values will attract increased government support and private-sector collaboration.
“The effort of IKIDASS is commendable and perfectly aligns with Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s vision for inclusive, community-driven development,” said Dr. Agbaje.
“Transparency and accountability are essential for continued government partnership.”
During the event, the Owode-Ibelefun community, which hosts the school, seized the opportunity to appeal for a transformer to help stabilize electricity supply in the area.
Dr. Agbaje acknowledged the urgent need and assured residents that their request would be promptly conveyed to the Governor for necessary action.
In a show of legislative support, Hon. Moshood Abiodun Aro, Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ikorodu Constituency II, donated 204 school bags and 1,000 exercise books to the schoolchildren.
Dr. Agbaje assisted in presenting the materials to the delighted pupils.
The commissioning and handover event drew the presence of top dignitaries, including: Asiwaju Kaoli Olusanya; Ms. Abisola Kaoli, Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture; Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education; Mr. Akeem Smith, Chairman, Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools; Hon. Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, APC Chairmanship Candidate Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA; Bldr Olusesan Daini, Executive Chairman, Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA; and Comrade Olalekan Biliamin Oba, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Social Development, amongst others.
The successful completion and transfer of the classroom blocks underscore what can be achieved through effective collaboration between local communities and the government — a shared vision of quality education and sustainable development.
