In commemoration of Nigeria’s 26 years of uninterrupted democracy, The Elevation Church, Ikorodu, hosted a transformative Democracy Day Service and Political Dialogue on Sunday, June 15, 2025.
The keynote speaker, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, Member of the House of Representatives for Ikorodu Federal Constituency, delivered a powerful address on the theme: “The Three I’s That Make a Nation Strong”—Ideas, Institutions, and Individuals.
Rep. Benson underscored the centrality of individuals in nation-building, stressing that while ideas and institutions lay the foundation, it is value-driven citizens and leaders who ultimately determine a nation’s progress.
“Ideas give birth to nations. Institutions uphold them. But individuals—especially responsible and principled ones—are the real agents of national transformation,” he remarked.
Highlighting the Church’s influence in shaping societal values, Rep. Benson urged faith communities to intentionally groom citizens who are law-abiding, informed, patriotic, and service-oriented.
“Every pulpit carries civic potential. When churches raise integrity-driven citizens, the nation will thrive exponentially,” he said.
The event, which also coincided with Father’s Day, provided a unique intersection of faith, family, and governance.
During the panel discussion that followed, Rep. Benson shared personal reflections on leadership, philanthropy, and political engagement, recalling how lessons from his father molded his passion for service.
He addressed pressing concerns raised by the congregation, including youth disenchantment with politics, electoral integrity, and local security.
In a reassuring response, he announced the planned establishment of a military Forward Operating Base in the Ijede/Igbogbo axis to combat insecurity and curb the spate of kidnappings.
Moderated by Omo’ba Peju Akinyemi, the dialogue struck a balance between critical political discourse and spiritual introspection, earning commendation for its depth, transparency, and relevance.
The session was also graced by Hon. Adedayo Olumuyiwa Samuel, Member representing Apapa Federal Constituency, and other dignitaries.
Pastor Kolawole Shawana, who delivered the vote of thanks, described the event as “a needed convergence of purpose and politics in our evolving democracy.”
The Elevation Church’s Democracy Day Dialogue continues to serve as a platform where civic awareness meets spiritual engagement—fostering a generation of citizens equipped to drive meaningful change.
