IKORODU DIVISION STRENGTHENS SECURITY FRAMEWORK WITH LAUNCH OF HARMONISED LOCAL JOINT TASK FORCE REGULATION ~ INN Nigeria ☆

All six local council chairpersons have jointly introduced a newly ratified Local Joint Task Force (JTF) Regulation in a strategic move to enhance public safety across Ikorodu Division.

The official launch of this regulation on June 27, 2025, at the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat, marks a significant advancement in the region’s security framework, building upon earlier initiatives aimed at combating insecurity and maintaining law and order.

The establishment of the Joint Task Force, a product of inter-council collaboration, has played a pivotal role in fostering peace across the division.

With this formal legal framework now in place, residents can look forward to an even more coordinated and robust approach to community policing and crime prevention.

To bolster the operational capabilities of the JTF, the council chairmen also presented four new patrol vehicles, further demonstrating their commitment to improving security logistics and rapid response.

Hon. Wasiu Adesina, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, highlighted that the joint security outfit was originally formed five years ago to confront various security threats—most notably, the menace of the “Bado” cult group.

He emphasized that the JTF has since become a cornerstone in preserving peace in Ikorodu.

Adesina acknowledged the critical role played by councillors in passing the regulation, and expressed his gratitude to God for the progress achieved.

He assured that the by-law would be formally handed over to the incoming administration for ratification and continued refinement.

Speaking on the framework, Bldr Sesan Daini, Executive Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, explained that the regulation is designed to synchronize all government-recognized and volunteer security agencies within the division under a unified command.

This approach, he noted, will eliminate fragmented efforts and promote collective action against criminality.

Daini also disclosed that many operatives within the JTF have undergone specialized training at the Nigerian Police Training College and have been certified to work alongside law enforcement agencies.

He affirmed that continuous support and upskilling for security personnel will remain a priority for the council.

He added that the coordinated security structure would significantly enhance the protection of lives and property, even though he acknowledged the complex nature of community-based security.

However, with determination and shared responsibility, he expressed confidence in overcoming future challenges.

Mr. Paul Lawrence, a representative of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, praised the legal backing of the JTF as a forward-thinking initiative.

According to him, the regulation aligns with constitutional provisions that allow citizens to assist the police in safeguarding lives and assets.

Lawrence noted that the by-law has been carefully designed to comply with existing legislation and empowers communities to play a lawful role in self-protection.

He commended the council leaders for their proactive engagement with the Lagos State Security Council and their commitment to building a lasting, citizen-inclusive security system.

He described the implementation of the JTF regulation as a major leap toward establishing a crime-free Ikorodu and urged residents to fully support the initiative.

Alhaji Jamiu Adio Saka, Apex Leader of Ikorodu West LCDA, clarified that the intent of the by-law is not to replace statutory security forces but to augment their work through structured collaboration.

He advocated for the integration of digital tools—such as surveillance cameras and smart monitoring systems—into the security framework to meet modern-day security demands.

Alhaji Saka congratulated the local government chairpersons for taking this visionary step, which he said reflects their dedication to safeguarding their constituencies.

Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, the Executive Chairman of Ijede LCDA, expressed collective appreciation on behalf of all six chairpersons.

She thanked security stakeholders and community participants for attending the unveiling ceremony and lending their support to the initiative.

She remarked that the newly introduced security legislation will greatly improve community confidence and foster safer neighbourhoods throughout Ikorodu Division.

Representatives from the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps reiterated the importance of community-based security efforts. They affirmed that the JTF would complement the work of formal agencies by leveraging local knowledge and rapid access to communities.

Traditional rulers, community elders, and residents also voiced their commendation for the dedication of the JTF personnel, noting the positive impact of their work so far. They encouraged continued vigilance and stronger cooperation between security agents and community members to collectively confront evolving security threats.
