The Ikorodu Peculiar Lions Club, in conjunction with Oshodi Art Gallery, has flagged off a 5-day Skill-for-Life Training Workshop aimed at equipping young people with hands-on vocational skills in the arts, in a bold move to foster creativity, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment.

The transformative workshop, which commenced on 10th July 2025 at the prestigious Oshodi Art Gallery, is scheduled to run until 15th July 2025, with training sessions starting at 10:00 AM daily.

The training series focuses on five major areas: Ceramics, Drawing & Painting, Photography, Sculpture, and Textile Design, offering participants the opportunity to harness their creative talents and transform them into profitable ventures.

Speaking at the take-off ceremony, Lion Dr. Oshodi Seyi Paul, President of the Ikorodu Peculiar Lions Club, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, noting that the initiative is especially significant to him as it marks his first major service project since assuming office.

“This training will help our youths grow in their creative crafts and give them the foundation to become entrepreneurs in their own right,” Dr. Oshodi said.

“We’re committed to ensuring they receive the best possible learning experience.”

Also addressing attendance, Lion Fuad Alapufuja, the Club’s Service Chairperson, stated that the project is a strategic intervention by the club to combat unemployment and enhance youth employability.

“By equipping them with relevant skills, we’re opening doors of opportunity. This is a proactive measure to prevent idleness and joblessness among our youths,” Aluko said.

The Immediate Past President, Lion Aminat Sanusi, also shared her excitement about the initiative, affirming the club’s commitment to its core mission of humanitarian service.

“At the end of this week-long training, the participants will undoubtedly be empowered. We are proud to be part of a movement that continues to touch lives meaningfully,” she remarked.

The opening event saw active participation from volunteer members of the Ikorodu Peculiar Lions Club, as well as enthusiastic members of the newly inaugurated Ikorodu Peculiar Leo Club, signifying the Club’s dedication to mentoring the next generation of leaders and change agents.

Some of the participants also expressed their appreciation and excitement for the opportunity.

Nweke Sopulu Pascal and Stella Amechi, both enrolled in the Painting and Drawing category, commended the club for organizing such a life-changing program.

“This is a rare opportunity,” Pascal noted. “I intend to give my best and ensure that I don’t just participate but truly gain from this experience and become a full-fledged entrepreneur afterward.”

Stella Amechi echoed the same sentiment, saying, “I’m grateful for this platform. I see it as the beginning of a journey into creative independence, and I plan to take full advantage of it.”

This initiative stands as another testament to Lions Clubs International’s global mission of service, leadership development, and community impact—especially among the youth population.

The graduation ceremony on 15th July 2025 is expected to showcase the creative works of the participants and mark the beginning of their journey into creative entrepreneurship.
