
Lagos, July 11, 2025 — As Lagos prepares for its Local Government elections scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2025, the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has made a passionate appeal to all eligible voters across the state to turn out en masse and participate in the crucial democratic exercise.
In a public address released today, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of the local government as the tier of governance closest to the people, playing a pivotal role in grassroots development and service delivery.
He described the forthcoming election as a vital opportunity for Lagosians to shape the future of their communities by electing Chairmen and Councilors who will represent their interests and advance development at the local level.
“This election is not just a constitutional process; it is a powerful expression of your voice and your civic responsibility. It is your right,” the Governor stated.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to upholding democratic values, Governor Sanwo-Olu assured citizens that adequate security arrangements had been made to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and credible electoral process.
He said he had directed all security agencies to be strategically deployed across polling units and communities to safeguard voters, election officials, and materials.
He further disclosed that the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) had given assurances of its readiness to conduct the election seamlessly, ensuring that all electoral processes meet standards of transparency and fairness.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also made a clarion call to political stakeholders, party agents, and candidates to conduct themselves peacefully, with mutual respect and in accordance with the rule of law.
“I urge all political stakeholders, party agents, and candidates to conduct themselves with decorum, and to uphold the principles of peace, fairness, and respect for the rule of law throughout the election,” he said.
Addressing the youth population specifically, the Governor urged them to shun violence and play active roles as promoters of peace and democratic values in their respective communities.
“Our youths in particular should shun any form of violence and instead act as ambassadors of peace and democratic responsibility,” he advised.
Concluding his address, Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment to democratic excellence and participatory governance.
“Let us show the world once again that Lagos stands for peace, progress, and participatory governance,” he declared.
